Growing Sense that we take Mykel/Shemar, No matter who's available

I will say I went back and watched more tape on williams and saw some things I like.

I see why they think he could be molded. That size and length is just a unfair advantage when used correctly.

But, I like shemar too and I think the sacks numbers are over exaggerated. He is a force with a high motor.

we've did it with bryce as well

We've been doing it for YEARS. I remember all the smoke around guys like Shaq and Vernon Butler because so many of us myself included were like why the fug would we be making these picks at positions where we're strongest when we have such obvious holes and these guys aren't even great prospects?

Yeah but this iteration of the front office literally tells the prospect that you are the pick, which seems kindof nuts if you think about it

guys who don’t produce in college rarely if ever get a bit of magical coach em up and become 15 sack monsters at the nfl level

Williams was theoretically hobbled by an ankle injury but Stewart has no such excuse

We do like our raw and injured prospects.

In both I see almost the same player, and it is not a player we need.  Don't we have these guys in Wonnum and Pat Jones?  They are all about the same size.  I do not see the logic in drafting another player in that mold.

I don't think anyone in mid march has an idea yet.  Let it play out.

The more I ponder it, the more I think we go with Malaki Starks from Ga. He's a solid FS, who played 671 snaps last year in coverage (400 as FS and 271 at nickel). He's also 1 of the only round 1 talents we've formally visited with, Shemar Stewart and Jalon Walker being the other 2. We don't have a FS on the roster other than last year's UDFA. I think that there will be plenty of edges still there at 57.

there hasn’t been anything to actually link the panthers to shemar stewart, the Mykel Williams stuff feels real though

Charlie Campbell and another had linked the Stewart stuff. You’re right though, there’s more than a few saying we “love” Mykel.

Just seems like we’re off to showing our cards again.

You’d think we’d learn a bit when we tell a prospect we’ll draft him at the end of the 1st/early 2nd, the prospect tells everybody that we are picking him and no other team makes an attempt to “steal” that prospect. Normal teams would realize, hmm, maybe we got him because everyone else didn’t think he was worth it.

    • So the last guy who had the job got hired by his former team directly into a role he has no direct experience in?
    • Hard to pass up millions for a couple of days work per week for a coaching gig in the NFL that is 60-80 hours each week during the season and a more relaxed 50 hours a week during the off season. Yeah, I'd love to see him as our DC but hard to see him giving up the cushy job there if he gets it. And he's going to be a great commentator for the network.
    • Really, I think that is where negotiations come in. If you've got a QB getting you to 10 wins but statistically he's not a great performer, then you say look you can take $22 million or you can try it on the market. Because let's face it, out there, any leadership skills that we're seeing aren't going to be on the table, it's just going to be performance and that lands him in the QB2 market, which is much, much less lucrative (although any of us would love that money).  No one is saying that Bryce will be a $50 million QB, barring something short of a miraculous jump. I'm just saying that if we are winning somehow with him at the helm, then it would be fuging stupid to dive back into the rookie pool all over again. Let's say we do hit the 10 win mark, heck, let's call it 11 and a second round in the playoffs. I think we can all say that would be a really uplifting result and one that should be doable if we have good play. What do we do then? Here's what I would offer if I were Morgan and Tepper. $25 million a year for 3 years, each year with up to $10 million in incentives for touchdowns, wins, playoff depth, being under 10 interceptions, completing a full season, passing yardage milestones, taking less than 15 sacks. Look, Bryce isn't a Ferrari, he isn't a Corvette, or a mid-level BMW. He's probably a new Toyota Sienna that will definitely get you somewhere and bring the whole team along with it, no fuss but not a lot of pizazz.  And really, it's about the destination, not about what drove you there.
