my goodness Mike Green

"There's accusations out there," Green said. "I've never been questioned. I've never been asked. You know what I'm saying? Like, nobody ever asked me a question about what happened before I departed from Virginia. It was just accusations that caused me to leave from there."

When asked about how many accusations he has faced, Green said there were two, one in high school and one "anonymous report" in college.

Good teams can draft a guy like this and expect the culture to take care of it.  Bad teams can't get cancer.

Yeah, we have zero culture at the moment and maybe a handful of strong veterans.

This isn't the Cam/Luke/TD/JStew/Rivera era Panthers.

That is something to consider.

But, his concerns also seem to be relegated to off the field and not on the field(still matters, just a different impact).

Pearce Jr. is the one that seems to be constantly flagged as potentially having some negative locker room impacts.

Hard to care about tallent when his availability is in question. How long until he becomes an NFL offender? Seems like a bad bet if the team is looking for talent to build upon.

Would this even be a question if the draft wasn't lacking in teir 1 guys? I don't think so.

This is why you have to be careful, just everyone.

Green needs to be careful of who he surrounds himself with.  All it takes is even the hint of suspicion to open up an investigation against him.  I'm not saying all NFL players need to be choir boys who got to bed by 9PM with a glass of milk, but he needs to have a strong support network that is watching out for him.  That doesn't mean covering things up for him, but guiding him to better decision making for the future.

An NFL team that wants to drop a major investment into the young man also has to do it's research.  I'd talk to every ex GF he's had.  I'd bring a behavioral psychologist as well to see how they react and read body language.  Lots of guys can clean up their image in short order, but if there's an underlying issue, there are signs even that can't hide.

His talent is undeniable.  Dude could be an excellent edge defender for many teams in the NFL.  But if he goes to jail, it's hard to play.  If he becomes a pariah, it's hard to pay him.  Look, billionaires aren't clean people, they are just rich enough to keep their secrets safe.  Any team considering drafting Mike Green is going to have to do a LOT of research and investigation into someone with that kind of background, innocent or guilty.

After all, you don't want to invest a high pick in Green, only to lose him and the value to the team.

I'm all in on Green at #8

No court case, then let's play ball..

Also would not mind Pearce jr, both are true Edge players.

No court case until he signs, then it’s lawsuit time, commissioners list, etc.

Lawyers likely now have an SOP for this.

Reminder for those of us that missed it? I saw rumors about Pearce but I haven’t seen anything about Green.

Draft prospect Mike Green denies sexual assault allegations, explains transfer from Virginia

tldr; was accused of sexual assault @ Virginia. There was allegedly another accusation while at Marshall which was what really gave teams pause.

Dude is a beast and was one of my favorite prospects during the season, but I'm incredibly wary of any player with SA accusations. The fact that he was accused again while at Marshall and his answer(s) apparently did not satisfy teams makes me even more cautious.

In the past, I recall Huddlers arguing that character does not matter--it doesn't--in Madden.  But a team is a fragile ecosystem and all it takes is one bad egg--that is a bad example because one bad egg leaves 11 eggs, and that is how many you need--disregard my metaphor.

Think of our greatest players--most of them high character guys--Gross, Mills, Beason, Luke, Morgan, Moose (even when he had a mistake, he rebounded--I met him--great guy), Eric Davis, Minter, Rucker, Stewart, Jake, Cam (odd, different, but his character as an athlete and leader was good), Olsen, Kalil, Wharton, Remmers, etc.

I put Remmers in there to piss people off.

But you get the point--it takes a lot of self discipline to be a pro athlete--more than i ever had--training, image control, media engagement, dealing with the public,  film study, etc.  Character is important.

    • FLA showed everyone it’s not about superstars. they bullied the best line in the NHL into obscurity. they played hard, were in the right positions, and ran over everything that got in their way.
    • That’s really not what you said and when I even expressed doubt as to your intentions with the post you doubled down and remained unclear on whether you were trying to drag Dean Smith for whatever reason. You just got the facts wrong, which if you don’t follow the local college programs like you say then maybe you just were mistaken and thought Smith didn’t win championships or have legit superstars, and that is ok, but you just doubled down when my first post was more corrective than anything. I’m not sure what you expect posting objectively false things like “RBA has a lot of wins with nothing to show for it like Dean Smith” (paraphrasing) on a message board with plenty of UNC fans. I’m not taking it as a personal affront, we can agree to disagree, Dean Smith’s legacy fortunately will not be affected by this conversation. Screw the (Florida) Panthers?
    • Bring in the free agents and trades.  Florida is the best team and unless Tulsky makes it happen, it’s more of the same…which isn’t bad…but it’s time to win a goddamn cup.
