Why I Believe That We Will Trade Down

Recommended Posts

This is probably going to be a bad draft to trade back in. Won't get what you'd normally get. Also Panthers really like Walker, if he's there, he will get picked. Only way they move back there is for a huge return plus still have a chance at Walker. So I don't see a drop back past 14-15 but I'd be shocked if they traded out and Walker was there.

You want to trade down from 8 to 15 and only get 46 in return?

HELLLLLLLLL NO

If we're trading down that far, we better be getting a 1st next year, a 2nd this year, and possibly even more.

If we aren’t sold on anyone at 8, this would be a good trade imo. We would get a really good player at 46. This is an unusual draft with a lot of really good players from 10-50.

The players who will be available to us with those picks are irrelevant because it's still not a good trade.  And for at sam that has a recent history of making bad draft pick based trades, all this trade would do is make teams continue to low ball us in trade offers because it's clear we get pushed around.

And it being that type of draft is also exactly why it's a terrible trade, because it's a bit of a crapshoot draft, so every pick you move down, makes you more likely to make a wrong pick than a right one.  Even over drafting a player is a smarter move, because it means we are still taking someone we REALLY believe in, which in a draft like this is more important than value, because it gives you a better chance of hitting on the pick.

All of that is also before you even dig in further and see that this is proposing a trade with the Falcons.

If we're allowing a divisional opponent to move up from 15 to 8 to take someone they clearly badly want, you need to make them bleed for it.  I made my comments before realizing it, and still stick by that trade package if it was a non NFCS team, now knowing it's the Falcons, if we're going from 8 to 15, I want next year's 1st and 2nd as well as this year's 2nd, anything less and they can go kick rocks.

Kittle is great, but the two times he's made the SB, he was still on his rookie contract for one, and the other the 49ers had Purdy on a cheap rookie deal which help them build the rest of the roster. So again, it's not about not wanting an elite TE, of course it would be nice.  But realistically, in today's NFL, unless that elite TE with a top end TE salary is on a team with a GOAT level QB and/or other serious cap savings (i.e. key players on rookie deals), then I think it's not a good use of cap space.
    • This place was the poo pre tepper with tons of hilarious posters like phillyB. Joined in the 2000s during the 07 season and have been here bitching about this team since. but yeah its sadly been dying a slow death, every time I come to this site I am surprised its still up. I think the 2015 season was the absolute peak, the Panthers and this board especially just haven't "felt" the same since then. Igo should really sell the board since he clearly doesn't care anymore. Also, Reddit blows and the Bryce defenders on there need Jesus.
    • Guessing the price is too rich here given the injury history.  2024 was brutal and production dropped off in 2025 with a few more injuries (albeit rough qb play).    Don’t really understand the narrative that Young can’t benefit from talented upgrades on offense. Especially here with respect to a tight end. Any QB will benefit from talented receivers that threaten the top of coverage and tight ends with skills to stress zone.    The age and injury history, coupled with what he’s likely asking, just probably means we can better spend that money elsewhere.
