Thielen traded

Morgan said Minnesota called wanting Adam back and he told Thielin about it who said he would be interested n going back there since he has a house there and could end his career at the place he started. Morgan said he would do his best but wouldn't give him away for free. But Adam wanted the trade and Dan accommodated him while trying to get something for him. Dan didn't want to trade him but as a former player he knows how important playing in one place can be. And his respect for Adam compelled him to get the deal done.

Absolutely stupid logic.

Lets handicap the team because we respect a player.

Those concussions really did a number on this guy.

I don't think Morgan sees it that way. He talked about Adam's mentorship being a key reason he thinks Coker can man the slot and he can make the trade. If he didn't believe in his young core he wouldn't make the trade. He was emphatic is has to benefit the Panthers as well. Adam wasn't expected to be the go to guy this year.

Thielen contemplated retirement last offseason. This was his last year. Belichick used to get mad praise for trading someone before they retired or were a free agent and still had value. That is exactly what Morgan did. It was a gift which fell into Morgan's lap.

Everything ive seen or heard gives credit to Morgan for what we got for him other than a handful of malcontents on the Huddle.

In a vacuum I'd prefer to have Thielen but nothing is in a vacuum

It's time to admit Morgan is not a good GM.

i wouldn't say that yet. I also wouldn't say he's done anything that makes me think he's particularly good.

i think that's about right for compensation both ways for thielen considering the state of the vikings and Panthers.

The weirdest thing is that technically the panthers should be adding veteran salary cap right now; they have a high cost first overall qb on a rookie contract; that's the best advantage in the NFL in this day and age. It hasn't worked out because, well, the qb they drafted isn't good and they've ignored other parts of the team to try to bolster him.

so what's morgan really supposed to do? Are they tanking with a rookie qb in year three that the owner probably personally wanted drafted? Are they actually trying to win games this year with 80 career catches between their top three receivers? The defense is probably going to be terrible. What kind of jump are people actually expecting from Coker, Bryce, XL, and performance from a rookie to overcome that? It's not realistic.

At the end of the day I don't think Thielen wanted to end his career here and I don't blame him. Minnesota is going to compete this year and Carolina isn't. I also think this is to toss Bryce to the wolves and be done with him one way or another. There's no way this works. This is not a move you make if you're trying to win football games.

Keeping Dalton and then shiping off AT with that WR room is just backwards IMO.

As for throwing Young to the wolves, well that was happening anyways. There just aren't any more excuses that can be made there.

Then there is building around Evero which was an extreamly stupid approach this year. I know people here try to project a switch to 4-3 but that's just cope to me.

He has showed mostly meh with bad outweighing any good. Loved the player but he isn't very good as a GM.

Of course theilen wanted to go back, he is aging player on his last legs and there was no benefit for him to be loyal to a team like the panthers. Thats the reality some fans dont want to understand.

If you really think theilen was that important then we were doomed from the start.

Adam Thielen actually requested the trade

on the @KyleBaileyClub show, Dan Morgan mentions #Panthers didn’t want to move him but also they didn’t want to stand in his way. Thielen told him, "this is what I want, this is where I want to go"

That's the only explanation that makes any sense.  And it's completely understandable.

    • A team should always be putting at least one or two draft picks in at tackle and guard each season. Those guys just don't last nearly long enough and those that do get very, very expensive. In our situation, we need a little more time to see what the Icky injury works itself out to. Njiman performed really well out there and if this injury lingers into the next season, then he might do well enough there to hold the line for the team. Or we could draft early if there is a stud LOT in the draft when our spot comes along.  Honestly, we may be looking at replacing both LT and RT this season at this point. Moton is getting long in the tooth and while he deserves a shot to go for a playoff run with this team, I don't know whether we will really see him come back next season yet. It's still so darned early in all of this to say.
    • Because we had a ton of things go our way this year and made the playoffs with a -70 point differential.  This year was the outlier.  Regression to the mean is unavoidable.  So the team will have to significantly improve to beat 8 wins next year.
    • One thing I noticed in this game (and I say this as the biggest of Bryce Young haters) is that Bryce did do a solid job of throwing into voids in this game, and leading receivers on crossers.  There were a few times where I was thinking "where the hell is he throwing it" only for a receiver to appear out of nowhere and catch it in stride.  Mike McDaniel might be a guy that can squeeze a little bit of production out of the otherwise ghastly Bryce Young. His offenses heavily feature that style of passing game.  I've heard Idzik is drawing interest from other teams.  If so, bringing McDaniel in at OC would be a stellar move.  I know it'll never happen, but fun to think about.
