Hendon Hooker signed to practice squad

He finished the preseason 22-of-40 passing for 187 yards, zero touchdowns, three interceptions and two fumbles. The Lions were held without a touchdown and were limited to just one field goal in 20 preseason drives with Hooker at the helm

He was horrible this preseason.  Add to the fact he is 27, unless DC is a true qb whisperer then this dude aint ever seeing the light of day on a nfl field.  If ben johnson couldnt get him going in the right direction then I dont know what to say

That's awful but this is the predicament Dan Morgan put the team in. He can't pretend like there weren't red flags.

only 1 QB in the history of mankind has managed a winning record with his opportunities in the David Tepper era.

Bring in PJ.   He has NFL tools.  He will at least be entertaining if called upon.  How is that not better than Andy.

*PJ Walker bandwagon is back up now that it is....not...time for for the percolator.

What’s crazy is we had Baker and Darnold both on our team and PJ somehow was the best out of them at the time.

imagine where we would be if we just kept one. Well for one I bet Canales wouldn’t be our HC because without Baker tampa wouldnt have had that good offense that got him recognized.

I really think that if we would have just kept baker we would have been fine. I think he still hadnt fully recovered from his injury plus he was just thrown into a new team where he didn’t have a good offensive line, new playbook, team mates and coaches. He was set up to fail. I would have loved to see what he would have done with Reich as HC.

heck I think Darnold could have been decent if he stayed too. He actually played well his last season with us and we seen how well he can do with a competent coach and players around him.

No need in overthinking a practice squad signing, for all I know it's just someone to throw warmup to the WRs, but I can't believe there wasn't someone better out there. Those preseason stats are some of the worst I've ever seen.

We will see if Canales  is really the Qb Whisperer. He literally  saved Geno and Bakers careers and both were headed the opposite  way. The only reason I say Hendon has a shot, is bc he has all the physical  skills to succeed. He sounds like a bright guy, maybe  the change of scenery  and being close to home sparks something...

Hendon Hooker has an absolute hose, but in 2022 Tennessee was running a mickey mouse air raid offense and he doesn't place the ball very well. It didn't matter when he was throwing to three track stars, but he couldn't do anything against UGA.

he hasn't done a thing in the NFL.

most likely role for him on this team is throwing end of half hail marys

I don't think most actually watch a snap of his 2024 or 2025 preseason games. There is a reason a 3rd round draft pick was jettisoned so quickly for.....Kyle Allen.

He is atrocious.

He was terrible but kyle allen after the first preseason game was playing very very high level.  I still think with the right cast and protection kyle allen could be an above average qb in the nfl

The problem I have with Hooker is he is already 27. So all that potential you have in a player is gone. He is already in his prime. He’s shown nothing for the lions who is a great team with great weapons and great offensive line. You think that’s going to change here?

I doubt they tried to develop him. He missed his rookie year.

Hooker player of the year in 2022 in the SEC. That is noteworthy.

was not sad when he left VT for the Vols. sure he played great in that scheme, so did Joe Milton and everyone else who has been in that scheme.

He did something right. Player of the year in 2022 in the SEC. They beat Alabama in one of the best college football games ever.

    • A winning record would be nice, but I still have us winning around the 6 to 8 game mark. Realistically we should beat the Jets and Saints, that gets us to 5 wins. After that, we have to face a lot of potential play off teams and our divisional opponents. I think we’ll win 1 or 2 of those games to take us to 6 or 7 wins, perhaps 8 wins if we can spring a further surprise.  Is that enough progress for head coach and QB? I’m not sure, it will depend on performances and output. That said, it’s nice to be back in a position where we are thinking about the play offs.
    • I would tend to agree about not falling into the trap and paying a below average QB, but sometimes situations can “force” a team to pay that QB. For example, if we play ourselves into a 9-8 like record, then what options will we have in the draft? Or do we avoid the draft and trade for or sign someone in free agency?  I’m not convinced by the 2026 QB draft class. There’s some intriguing prospects but no one that really screams “draft me”. I’m not sure we’ve got anyone really that stands out as a trade candidate or free agent signing. So although we might not want to commit a big money contract to Young, him playing well and showing progress might force the team’s hand.
    • Realistically we would be looking at no more than a mid round pick for Dowdle or Chuba. Are we really that desperate for a mid round pick? Not really. I would much prefer us utilise the two RBs in a 1-2 punch similar to how we used D-Will and Stewart. After all, Bryce is not Drew Brees. He won’t throw for 300+ yards and carry the team consistently as a passer. So having a strong running game with a 1-2 punch will be beneficial to him, and it will also be beneficial to the RBs because we can spell them and not overwork them.
