Here is the rub.  For Bryce to be good, you need an elite OL, solid RB (s), and quite an investment at WR.   Best to have a D that keeps the opposition under 21 points per game.  

Not sure we can afford a mediocre qb who is not dual threat and completes a low percentage of passes that are usually pretty short.  

His processing is not quick.  His arm is not average.   He is not an alpha.  

He would need to bring other things to the table that are not easily replaced.  Jalen Hurts is the example of this, but he brings you a dual threat, the unstoppable QB sneak, and leadership intangibles.  So he makes up for being a lackluster passer.

I think we all talk ourselves into a worst case scenario with everything we’ve seen. But sometimes it’s overdone - I equate this to when people worried that we wouldn’t be able to sign any meaningful FAs or Cam to a second contract because of Jerry Richardsons pie chart drawing that insulted players or that halfway during Kelvin Benjamin’s rookie year we had people worried about how we would extend/resign him in 3 years with how much money we had tied up in the defense. Panic moves are what got us into most of this mess, no sense in doing that again.

Look, guys....this horse has been beaten enough. CJ struggling doesn't mean Bryce is good or even better. 

Yes it can raise questions about the grass always being greener but regardless of which of those horses your bandwagon is hitched to, you need big improvements in play. Period.

The one thing you can say for CJ is that at least he had a full season of showing elite play. We are still waiting on that for Bryce between benching, injuries, etc.

10 things I think about Bryce...

1. He's improved a lot more than many people here care to admit.

2. I think he's better than just a backup QB.

3. I also don't think he'll ever be a high-end starter or franchise QB.

4. I don't think he's quite reached his ceiling yet.

5. His ceiling likely looks roughly like how he played against Dallas, more or less consistently each week.

6. His size is less of an issue than his arm strength is. A lack of arm strength doesn't allow for his accuracy to translate to downfield throws. This ultimately will be what limits his upside as an NFL QB.

7. He's been far more durable than I expected, recent injury aside. You can't question his toughness at this point considering his size and how often he's been hit over his first couple seasons.

8. I don't think we'll ever really know what Dave Canales is capable of as a playcaller without a QB who can make downfield throws a lot more consistently than Bryce has shown.

9. I wouldn't pick up his 5th year option or extend him.

10. Long-term our best bet is to hope he continues to play more or less well and hope a team in desperate need of a QB (Jets? Raiders? Dolphins?) make us a decent offer for Bryce, hoping they can get the next Baker Mayfield/Sam Darnold redemption story.

I think Bryce has been extremely consistent in the NFL overall.

By the way, that past argument about Dalton that you all of sudden remember was another one you backed out of at the time and are trying your best to dodge and deflect (again). I am burned out on Bryce debate so without getting too deep into it…

I appreciate your perspective in some of those thoughts but feel like this Bryce thing is a massively bigger concern that JR’s pie chart. 
We are talking about having three lost seasons if this doesn’t get clearly resolved and putting at least another one on the table. It isn’t scratching the itch, let me just put it that way
