Joe Person: Ickey is expected to be extended, Mays is someone we want to keep long term, TE, LB and OLB are our biggest needs heading into the offseason

Wouldn't put money on it being addressed next season (outside of finding a new backup)

They’re picking up Bryce’s fifth year; I’ve finally moved on from the depression phase to acceptance.

5. Acceptance
“It’s going to be okay.” (not “I’m okay with this”)
Emotional detachment and calm; coming to terms with the reality of the loss and beginning to move forward.

You can't have $50M QB play in a couple games a year to earn the a 50M/year long term deal.  Like the guy said in the video, not to long ago all we wanted Bryce to do was hand the ball off to Rico.  Bryce is on a VERY recent hot steak and all of a sudden now we want to give him a Josh Allen contract?

Y'all have got to be high.

He hasn't earned it, but I think a Bryce deal would look similar to the one Baker signed last (3 years, $100 million). I'm sure his agent would balk at that, and some team may trick themselves into more...but that's the top end IMO.

As for the OL, the draft is about to be REAL important for the big boys. Our backups have injury issues, and we're a year away from some decisions coming up on Lewis/Hunt/Moton as to whether to cut and save money or restructure. Wouldn't be mad seeing us draft a Center, OT, and OG in the first few rounds over the next 2 drafts.

Surprised TE is on the list after drafting Sanders and getting Evans. I mean sure they might want to upgrade Sanders, he showed so much promise at first but is obviously worse than Tremble especially blocking.

But yea no duh linebacker is the biggest need in the offseason.

I wonder how long the JT Sanders experiment will go. I know he went in the 4th for a reason, but at the time, I thought he was one of those classic prospects that fell and was a steal on day 3.

I’m not out on him, but he has flashed less this year than last and there are games where he seems non-existent.

Evans looks like the most promising long-term answer. Tremble will be here until his contract runs out. Sanders could be the new Ian Thomas, though the former has shown more flashes/promise than the latter.

Maybe Canales enjoys TE by committee though….i feel like that was the deal in TB and SEA.

The rams run TE by committee and 3 TE sets. This means Isiah Likely coming here.

Response to the Person article and a pretty good explanation of how people are forced into being “haters” of Bryce Young by the really bad Bryce takes

Yeah...no. he's actually just engaging in the same "should / will" confusion as others have by taking Person out of context.

Here's the rest of Person's statement:

Canales, Dan Morgan and Tilis will weigh more than just the next four games, even if Young plays well and the Panthers end their seven-year playoff drought, when considering an extension. Young and the Panthers have taken another step forward this season. If that ascension continues in 2026, his payday is coming.

Notice the "if" statements...

Joe is talking about an extension being the next decision on the horizon and what will ultimately determine their choice of action. And all that within the context of what top quarterbacks are getting paid right now. In not way is he arguing that kind of extension should be considered right now.

Hell, Person set the contezt for this elaboration just one sentence back in the start of the paragraph. He calls the fifth year option "an easy decision" specifically because it's more economical than any proposed extension might be.

So no, it's not a solid answer. On the contrary, it's just another example of the same mistake.

Evans might be something at some point, Sanders and Tremble are replacement level players.

Eventually you want to get an actual game changing TE at some point.

We draft a lot of TE's

Interesting comment, because i think they expected Sanders to become that big play WR-type.  But we have drafted a lot of TEs, but we have yet to make a significance investment in a playmaking TE.  I can say that we have been using some 3 TE sets and Evans and Tremble looked solid as blockers.  Unfortunately, this draft only has one or two who would upgrade our group.  In fact, I might suggest that only Oregon's Sadiq fills that prescription.  I think we could add a free agent.

I expect this would give Bryce another option since he checks down so much--a mid-range target.  I think Sadiq could improve the offense more than a first round WR.

This article also suggests that the Panthers are OK with the Edge situation. That implies that Scourton and Princely are expected to step up in 2026.

He's not saying anything any of us haven't already said. Its they only move they should be thinking about. An extension is not in the conversation until he's earned it. So far he's lucky there's not a better qb on the roster.

If they pick up the 5th that tells me they have at least discussed an ext

Not necessarily. I mean it is part of the process but its a long way away just based on the body of work to date. I'm sure they want him to work out just to get that part of the team solidified. But like the rest of us they can also see that the plan is not going so well. I just hope we get some real backup qbs in here.

About TE--we played 3 TEs (blocking, mostly) at times Sunday.  We don't have the playmaker.  I would NOT BE SURPRISED to see us draft Oregon's SADIQ in round 1.  Heard it here first.  He is the only offensive weapon (a threat) and that is a trend in the NFL--Bowers, Kittle, LaPorta, etc.  A play-making TE is PERFECT for Bryce, to be honest.

It sure seems as if we are staying with Bryce.  Giving him weapons and protection.  The formula--if you like him or not, is to have a great run game, great OL, great receivers.  Bryce has benefited from RAC from his swing passes, fwiw.
