I think that was partially on him. Fitts waited to long to go after a pash rusher and wound up at the end of the run with almost nothing left to choose from.

It's not the coaching staff's job to evaluate day 3 picks.  The responsibility for DJ Johnson lies with the front office.

I feel like that draft officially solidified the fact that these "professionals" aren't some football geniuses that you should blindly trust like half the huddle wanted to believe at the time. Times have changed with the public access to digital and social media. Not to mention the trade up for XL last year that I don't think anyone on here wanted or expected lol. We could just do a huddle poll for every draft pick and do just as good as the FO minus some inside health info we don't have access to

That's why I said almost nothing. Fitts panicked. DJ Johnson had the RAS measurables he wanted and was an Evero choice. I've said repeatedly Fitts couldn't read the flow of a draft and he didn't actually know talent, he knew RAS scores. When he felt like he needed a position, he grabbed the best metric player he could. It's how all his drafts look and why I think he was such a horrible GM and team builder. He simply didn't recognize guys that could play football.

If we drafted our next JJ Jansen with a free 3rd round pick I’d be cool with it. Sure, I’d probably bitch on draft day, but after about year 10 I’d look back and give a thumbs up.
