Why trading up in 2026 is a bad idea.

2019 traded up for Greg Little

2022 traded up for Matt Coral

2023 traded up for Bryce Young and DJ Johnson

2024 traded up for Jonathan Brooks and XL

2025 traded up for Nick Scourton.

1 out of 7.  Hopefully, Morgan is still humbled by his '24 draft and won't think about it.

I think we traded up for Armanti Edwards in the third round when he had a 7th round grade.  Feel the Hurn.

I feel like that 2010 draft had Richardson all over it. He was fed up with Fox not playing younger players or ever looking for a QB. Was also shutting the team down for the lockout.

Yeah. I haven’t seen much if any move up in the first talk.

Seen some trade back to get some ammo to move higher in the second, I have said that.

I can’t imagine why they’d trade up when they have so many holes on the roster. Offensive line is low key a mess going into the offseason and if Morgan screws it up, the offense is going to take a step back. They need to find young offensive line talent in this draft and a trade up would probably nix that happening

We don't do well with first round trades. Up or down.

Just pick where we have it, take the best player we need and move on.

Then when the field gets a bit muddier, make your moves for the needed spots.

There's going to be a huge run on WRs as always (over valued in my opinion), there are a ton of OTs and Edge is always heavy in the first and second rounds. Grab your future starting S and ILB in rounds one and two, snag your C in three. Take trade offers to move down in rounds three and beyond for a spot in the same round plus another, even if in a future draft.

We're going to have even more holes in our roster in 2027 than we do now.

Thats the problem (or positive how one could view) is that after say the top 8ish all of the next tier of talent is basically the same.  You could get the same level at 13 as you could top of the 2nd.  Yes there are a lot of those dudes in that tier but they are all bunched together.  Thats why I am screaming trade back.  Same value more picks with hopefully another 1 for 27.

I would love to see us move up and take Styles but IMO that would cost us s 2027 first round pick.

Our schedule next year is brutal.  We will play every division winner and we were under .500.  This is brutal and the possibility of having a top 5 pick is very possible.  The bad season would almost certainly be because Young had a bad or mediocre season.  Giving up a first-round pick would cost us the chance to get a replacement for Young.

Thoughts?

I agree 100% with most of what you said I can't justify treading up in 2026 with 2027 being a generational draft class that said there are some guys that I would love to have on the team I just can't justify the price of trading up but if you want to trade compensation in this draft to move up then sure why not because I think there's a sweet spot towards the late first through third round where the guys that are great are right in there after that it's a dead zone so by all means have at it
