Trevin Wallace - One Final Shot...or is Cherelus someone to watch?

Recommended Posts

We did not come away with one of the offball talents in this class so it seems Trevin is now given Year 3 to show what's up.

We spent the 72nd pick overall on him two years back...he had some moments as a rookie, fumbled the bag last year.  Looked pretty lost at times (some would say many times).  Once he was shelved with an injury, Cherelus didn't look half bad.  He started the final 4 and the Rams playoff game.

Do we see a late FA signing? Or do you think this staff is putting their eggs in his basket for one more season? (Would be nice if a reporter would ask them a question about this).  Or does Cherelus actually have the path to be paired as our starter with Lloyd?

I get it that we were moving with the board and got who we valued.  Just hope it pays off, there were some talented dudes at ILB in this class.

I’ll toss this out again-Wallace charts pretty well actually dropping into coverage. Rotating him in situationally and signing Bobby Wagner to come in and play early downs is a nice little boon to the defense.

They can probably get by with what they have, but with the developmental nature of the draft, boosting the team in the immediate is a good idea.

Trevin's biggest issue is lacking instincts and not being able to process the offense quickly enough and is always a step or two behind especially in the run game

This is the year to 💩 or get off the pot.

I've always liked Cherelus. I remember when I mentioned him last season, and some people scoffed. He is certainly the type of depth that you want.  Wallace is simply a little bit more athletic, a little faster, and markedly more explosive. He just has to put it together this season. He's OK in coverage with OK insticts and less so against the run. For all his athletic gifts, it hasn't translated onto the field with consistency or completeness. He'll be depth as well if he doesn't watch out, albeit maybe a wrung above Cherelus.

I'm holding out hope for Wallace and I feel like Dan wants this LB to hit. I still feel like Edgerrin Cooper was "their guy" and he got sniped from the FO. They also chose Wallace over Payton Wilson, so I think there's some ego there from the former LB.

I also think Wallace has had some pretty mid partners the past two years. Josey, Rozeboom, and a bunch of PS/journeymen haven't helped his case.

We probably thought he could be "the guy" at ILB but he's shown that's not the case. Now the question is, can he be a "Robin" to Lloyd's "Batman".

As for Cherillus, I like him as a depth guy and have never thought of him as a starter. He flashed a number of times last year. Bam Martin-Scott is another depth/PS guy that we drafted with the hopes he could step up given the opportunity. He's the exact same build, 2 years younger than Cherelus and produced similar stats last year.

Iron sharpens iron. Let's go gents....time to step up or show yourself out.
