Final Panthers Cuts

Just wish we were in a position to let Stewart go or trade him.  Hurney has us screwed. Love all the quick backs

Heath had a tough night as did Byrd.  We are deep at LB.

When you are young as we are, many guys with potential will sadly have to go.  As Zod said, Folkerts might be history

lol at Fozzy will definitely clear waivers but weghers won't. Weghers is almost, just almost as overrated as Lee Ward was on these boards. Fozzy proved to be a very useful player last year. He was the only RFA signed to a 2 year deal and was a captain last night with Klein and Jansen. It would be such a stupid decision to cut him for Wegher who hasn't proved a thing against first stringers.

The Carolina Panthers must get down to 53 players by Saturday at 4pm.

There are a few large question marks still regarding the final roster. Ron Rivera has said 9 positions are up for grabs, more than any season in recent memory.

I suspect we will see Brian Folkerts waived and then put on IR. I thought Mike Remmers did well at center and rookie Daryl Williams did well at RT, making Folkerts expendable.

Also will be interesting to see how the running backs shake out. My fear is they keep Fozzy over Wegher, which is a mistake, imo. Fozzy would clear waivers and is still practice squad eligible. Wegher I feel would be snatched up by any number of teams looking for a young healthy back (Texans, Chiefs, Steelers, etc).

Over at tight end, Simonson has looked sure handed in pass catching, but dismal in run blocking. Brandon Williams will probably get the final tight end roster spot with Marcus Lucas again a practice squad project.

On the defensive side, has Rakim Cox done enough in preseason to get a jersey? Does David Gettleman cut his first draft pick in David Mayo?

We will know soon enough.

As a reminder, the Panthers roster on Sunday probably will not be the final 53. Typically roster moves are still made into week 1 of the NFL. Bubble players typically continue to get cut on Mondays and Tuesdays as free agents are signed.

Brandon Williams will bring that physciality like KB did to the passing game. You saw how pumped Cam was after one of his recepiton running over a Steeler.

    • Ask me in five years whether this draft class was good or not. Having said that, I'll grade the 2019 draft... R1 P16: Brian Burns - I'll argue this was a good pick. At the minimum, he was worth enough to have gotten a seriously good offer of picks which, in retrospect, we should've taken. But we still got something for him and his new team gave him a ton of money. R2 P37: Greg Little - Utter and complete flop. Only real value was somehow getting a 7th rounder from the Dolphins. R3 R100: Will Grier  - Played godawful the rare times he was on the field. Somehow still in the league. R4 P115: Christian Miller - Nothing of note. R5 P154: Jordan Scarlett - I don't think he even lasted two years. R6 P212: Dennis Daley - Some flashes of promise but we eventually traded him for some picks. Was terrible in Tennessee. I'll consider this a success since we got picks back. R7 P237: Terry Godwin - Did not last here long at all.  In summary, we got one quality starter... who is now gone. Daley might've been the second best player of this class and he was a middling backup at best. Burns saved this class from being a complete disaster.  D+
    • You can add that to the assessment of the whole offseason, but not the draft itself
    • If you're going to bring up the Burns trade you have to include the players we were able to sign with the money we saved by trading Burns.  We got three positions of need with the money we saved by trading him.
