Who are some later round players you would love to see the Panthers grab??

Mine Jalen Hurd Wr/football player from Baylor..

Absolutely love this kid.. He is a pure football player.. He is a big WR with RB skills.. Raw but still put up a big productivity.. He is a special teamer day one while he works his way on the field.. Makes our offense super versatile.. With 3 Wr who can line up anywhere on the field.. It will literally drive defenses crazy trying to figure who will lineup where when all can line up in the slot on the outside or either in the backfield..  It pisses me off that we haven't given this kid a official visit especially when you look at our team.. Norv should be all over this..

Hurd scare me.  Not because he is not talented, because he is but because of the track record he has.  His teammates hatted him at Tennessee as did most of the coaches.  There was a thread on him when he transfered a couple of years ago.  It was not good.  It was how he didn't want to work and expected to have everything handed to him and would not show up to practice.  The thing about those kind of reports is if it is just from a couple of people, it may be jealousy.  But this was from like half the team and coaching staff.  So maybe he has changed and seen the light.  But usually if someone has some of those traits when they don't have money, when they get money they are alot worse.  Interviews with kids like that are key.

A few guys I tend to focus on 3rd round and later:

QBs: Jordan Ta'amu (Miss.) - I don't love this QB class, but Ta'amu is a guy I can get behind. Let him sit behind Cam and learn the offense. I think he would be a perfect fit over guys like Tyree Jackson (Buffalo) and Clayton Thorson (Northwestern).

RBs: Darnell Henderson (Memphis) and David Montgomery (Iowa St.). I think Montgomery would be the pick given his ability to pass block.

WRs: DaMarkus Lodge (Miss.) and KeeSean Johnson (Fresno St.) - I love WRs who are willing to block, especially in this offense where so much runs through CMC. Johnson has some pretty good hands and might be one of the best route runners in the class. Lodge has all the tools but has been inconsistent .

Edge: Oshane Ximines (Old Dominion) - Ximines could possibly go at the end of the 2nd round if a team falls in love with him, but I see him in the 3rd and would be perfect for the 3-4 defense. I love his ability to rush the QB, and thats what you would be drafting him for.

Totally agree about Hurd. He was RB1 over Alvin Kamara in Knoxville. Not suggesting that was the right move, but he was impressive enough to convince the coaches that was the right move.

At the RB position, Montgomery is perfect for what we need. Not sure why he isn’t being mocked higher. Same for Benny Snell.

DeAndre Walker but now that he can workout, he’s climbing up draft boards. I’ve already seen late 1st and early 2nd picks for him on a lot of mock drafts.

he and Chase Winovich have been my favorite picks for 2nd and 3rd rounds if we took an OT at 16.

Actually im totally on drafting one of them even if we do draft Burns or Ferrell at 16.

I really like TCU DE LJ Collier. Should go around day 3? He reminds me a lot of Charles Johnson. Doesn't have the length, but extremely heavy handed. I see him as a poor man's version of Rashan Gary. You lose out on the freaky athletic ability, but without having to pay a top 15-20 pick price and he would provide a similar role and point of attack play. Could be a real useful piece for our new front.

Here's a guy that's a round late second/third round projection and may pacify the Sweat/Burns folks if neither of those guys are the first round selection, OShane Ximines out of Old Dominion.  A little slower 40 in the mold of a traditional 4-3 DE, but was very productive getting after the QB in college.

    • This is gonna be longest six weeks ever
    • This 1000%.  Hey who wants to sign with the guy that couldn't even get his client the guaranteed contract of a 3rd round pick?  Lmao
    • I don't think it's any weird or unique clause, it's the offset language, same thing so many contract disputes are over. It just means that including it, if a player is cut and then signed by another team, the original team would be able to subtract how much they're getting paid by the new team from what they still owe him on their guaranteed money. For example, it's why Russell Wilson signed for the minimum last year with the Steelers as that was included in his Denver contract.  So if he signed with the Steelers for $1 million, he'd get $1 million less from the Broncos, if it was $2 million, he'd get $2 million less, basically he couldn't make any more money than he was already going to make, so you sign for the minimum to not take unnecessary cap room from your new team while giving extra cap room to your old one. The problem with trying to include it in rookie deals is that a team trying to include it, it says they think they don't really believe the player will make it 4 years with the team before they cut them.  And this usually comes up with one or two rookies in most seasons, the difference is it's usually handled much more quietly and not as public and ugly as this one. The other difference is that it's happening with the Bengals, which I believe I saw are one of the few (or only?) team that doesn't have protections for rookies in rookie and mini camps to be able to participate even if they haven't signed their contract yet.  The other teams have injury protections that allow them to still play, but the Bengals do not, which is also why this one is so public and ugly, as most the time this happens, the rookie is still participating in the rookie and subsequent mini camps, giving them more time to get the contract done before training camp when they'd then hold out.
