My Thoughts

Overall  Panthers won 6 catagories above, 49ers also won 6. Stats and eyeball test watching both teams this season indicate two teams who run the ball well and have good defenses. 49ers are better defensive yardage wise but we're much better at forcing turnovers.

Game would probably be a tossup on a nuetral field and I'd give the atvantage to whoever is playing at home, which is the 49ers this time around. We should be able their toughest test in terms of wreaking havoc with a pass rush especially if either of their starting OTs are out again.

This should defintely be a contest decided in the trenches. Keep the 49ers Dline off Allen and get to Garrapolo and keep forcing him into ill advised throws (ive seen some terrible INTs from him btw).

49ers are undefeated but they aren't world beaters. Panthers are by far the toughest team they will have faced thus far, with their only legit win being against a Super Bowl hungover Rams team who only managed to just barely eek out a 3 point win vs a one footed Cam Newton in week 1.

I'm actually hoping all the talking heads pick against us Sunday, that usually seems to work in our favor for whatever reason.

The 49ers look really good so this is a good comparison.

The biggest concern I have in this game is Allen's ball security, their D-Line is no joke.

Might be crazy to say but Butler might be our most important player this game. If he plays like he did the last game and shuts down the run game I think we take this one.

Nice post, sir.  You bring up a lot to discuss.

To me, the stats that will probably decide the game are Turnover-related.  In that area, especially INTs, we excel.  They don't force many, Allen (so far) doesn't throw them.  Jimmy G tosses it around carelessly, and we have a pass rush to harass him, and a secondary that knows how to pick them off.

If THOSE tendencies play out (and any past statistics are only good if they indicate a continuing trend), then we win.  Ball security is paramount in this, or any big game.

Can’t really say we won 6, they won 6 it’s even. Not how this should be looked at.

Have to look at just how far behind we are to them and them to us when a category is won.

And when you consider that, they are the superior team.

When 49ers win a category we’re an average 11 drops lower.

When the Panthers win a category it’s going to be somewhere around 6-8 drops lower. (San Fran is 14th in turnover diff but not sure about ‘passing stats’ category).

Not a humongous gap but with two winning teams there isn’t going to be.

Two good defenses with heavy run games. I would guess that the team that doesn't allow turnovers and can gas their opponents D will win. Don't giveup turnovers and don't go 3 and out, we should be able to wear them down if we can keep that up.

49ers offense and defense are both superior to ours going into last week.  We've played better offenses and slightly better defenses so far.  Jimmy G is definitely their weak link though.

UPDATED:

Panthers are 17th in Offense, 5th in Defense.  49ers are 9th in offense, 2nd in defense.

We make then one dimensional and make Jimmy G beat us through the air. Kyle continues to play complimentary football. We win 21 to 10

This sounds very similar to how teams used to talk about the Panthers during the 15....take away Greg, and make the rest beat you.

Kyle (coach) is a very very good offensive mind, it may be a fun chess match between him and Ron.  I need to go back and look, but I don't think that we had a very good record vs. Shanny when he was in ATL.

Turnovers and scoring on short fields will be the difference in this game.

also, the Panthers have been road warriors so I think it’s more even they are playing away.

its all about the turnovers and scoring on the short field. If we do what we’ve done to others and kill their drives with turnovers, coupled with scoring touchdowns on those turnovers then we win.

if Jimmy shows up and throws no picks and we can’t find a way to score then we have problems.

1st scenario we kill them—- with the turnovers and score— “ this is where we hold them! This is where THEY die! (300 reference just went over many heads)

2nd scenario happens and it’s a close One where we all have panic attacks until the end.

    • Terrible business decision.  Lazy negotiating.
    • I think GM's are more upset than owners Owners spend the same amount of money every year as it's a hard cap with a floor minimum too.  It doesn't really change anything for them (other than possibly make things more difficult on the team in general). But it's the GM's who need to negotiate these contracts who are really going to be pissed, if you're a skill position player that goes in the 2nd round now, you're going to be asking for this, and the higher you're drafted and/or the more unexpected it was for you to not go in the 1st, the stronger your case will be to insist on it.
    • 1 main reason i LOVE this move is because how many times did we see the Rivera or Fox era play older guys who honestly shouldn't have been on the field only to be put there for seniority. Holding a younger guy back from developing and stifling their progression!    This shows me DM is saying fug that! Lets get these young talented guys reps and ready to fn roll!  Coker was great example of that last year trading Johnson mid season.  Having a GM who was also a player i think helps with that mindset. Understanding father time is undefeated and you have to go with younger, faster players even when they don't have a ton of experience.  Love it and each move DM is doing this offseason is getting me to forget how much i hate our owner and back to feeling good about this team. Lets sign a Safety and rock this division this year!
