Should Curtis Samuel be moved to RB?

Dude would not last playing RB, he'd get injured on the first series.

No he shouldn’t get a full compliment of carries right now but there’s no reason to not give him 6-8 touches a game out of the backfield and 3-5 targets a game while we feed DJ and RA. With CMC hurt, now is the time to experiment and give people different looks. The coaches are locked in for years. Let’s try some new stuff.

Sanu has a much stronger resume. And what was thought to be a reasonable contract for another year. But he fell apart. CS is a pure rental. And at some point potential has to equal production.

Actually he didn’t at the time of the trade .  I thought so too until I looked up his stats

Unless he makes some magic happen soon, I can't imagine we re-sign him.  Try anything at this point, or ship him out in a couple of weeks for whatever pick we can get.

As others have mentioned, he's an interesting idea for NE.  If Cam's shoulder holds up, they can finally connect on that deep ball we always wanted to see.

Not like he's being properly utilized right now anyway. Get some yardage out of him.

True

Exactly. Would it matter if he gets injured since he isn't making an impact at WR?

Im for that now, even before the injury to CMC. His body is a WR now, not the combo rookie year. I remember Samuel being interviewed about this topic years ago. His response was like "NO WAY, Im strictly a WR now". I think hes one those that doesnt like contract/getting hit. If you run up the middle 10 times. First he would not do that, he'd bounce out wide.... the other is there would be another RB on IR before he got it 10 times.

really wish we’d sign Fournette for that 1y/2m deal. Double trouble all over again, no risk, even with cmc it wouldn’t been great. Fournetter wearing them down and cmc breaking ankles

ahhh but what do I know, I’m no Hurney

He wouldn't last five games before he is injured. The guy is 5'11 and weighs 195 lbs. Can't go up the middle and would probably get pancaked trying to block. Don't know what you can do with him besides pitches down the sidelines and reverses.

The moto should be 'why not' at this point. CMC isn't there and he was the entire foundation of the O. We have 28 to pound it. Throw poo until something sticks. At worst he will be on another team next year at best we find a way to get production out of him.

Maybe not that certain year but Sanu had at least 4+ solid years to CS two. You knew(or thought) what you were getting is the company line. Don’t get me wrong. I thought it was a mistake as well. That was way too much for a low end WR2. Like I said, the thing they liked(another year under contract) became useless when they decided he wasn’t worth 6.5M and cut him. They need WR badly but still wouldn’t overpay him. Byrd seriously beat him out.

But you’re not getting more than a 4th for Samuel. He’s proven he’s talented and highly inconsistent. I like him. There’s a good player in there. Get a pick. Give the snaps to the future. Heck. Sign him in the off-season. Anything he does good now just raises the likelihood he doesn’t resign.

So Fournette is making less than Mike Davis?

OK  then.

    • Yeah and I am doubtful he can offer that consistently. I don’t have many years left at my age and in my view we have wasted two and this whole exercise with him was always a three year minimum.  I am out on that with a guy I don’t believe in, and never believed in, it has sucked. To me it is a costly detour off the right track. Years.    But I am not so rigid that I can’t see excellence. He needs to display it though, consistently before I change my outlook.
    • No, when I said rage, I meant rage, which only applies to certain fans on this board. Your timeline of trying to assess whether he is the future or not is really tied to the discussions surrounding his second contract. If this team is going to commit to some monster contract while he has shown nothing but glimpses of brilliance would be deservedly worrisome, so the clock is genuinely ticking for him to settle into something resembling his final form. Perhaps a best case scenario is that he plays well, the team succeeds, but he does so with a more limited role that makes the rest of the league view him as a game manager, and his second contract value reflects that. Then he continues to improve and becomes a bargain comparatively while not handicapping the team around him, and we enter an era of consistent championship competitiveness that the fanbase has craved for decades and has never really experienced before. But that requires many, many things to go right and for Bryce himself to facilitate that if he ends up being the quarterback of the future.
    • Exactly. And the flame throwers as well, get location benefits from not going all out. But they have it in reserve.  Not sure how much Greg had but he was an artist.  There was a YouTube I came across last year or maybe even 2023 and I don’t how to even find now but it had two NFL QBs I want say one was Carr from the Raiders but I don’t really remember  The point of it is they stood side by side throwing identical distances to identical targets. Radar gun was used.  They threw the normal effort (not all out) and it was measured etc. Then they were asked to throw their ‘fastball’. They were missing and most often they were missing high. It demonstrated the same principle.    edit: and applying that to arm strength, give me the guy that doesn’t need max effort to have good velocity. The margins are so narrow with less velocity in tne NFL the defenders can Close on it and this is a league where they value down to the 100th of a second level. It is that tight
