Baldy Breakdown - Derrick Brown is insanely strong

Beast mode. Now he just has to improve at getting to the QB after beating the block. He had a clear unobstructed path to Brees and instead looped around and ran himself into traffic.

I agree, but if he can just keep the QB in the pocket while collapsing it while YGM, Burns, etc. close in from those wide 9 spots, that would hurt the qb's vision and not give him an opportunity to step up.  Unfortunately, drafting Brown is like buying homeowner's insurance--you rarely see the good it does.

I mean, we are entering an era where the qb can run, and they can do more damage (arguably) outside the pocket than in it.   I have not thought that through, but if everyone is rushing and an elusive qb can evade that wave, there is not a lot to stop him.

    • I don't see the lateral quickness there to handle speed rushers. He could surprise, but I am very suspect of Bama players at certain positions. Top draft classes every year playing against inferior talent. The gap closes too much when they reach the NFL.
    • There has been too much talk about Smith-Wade going to safety for there not to be something there.   IT MAKES SENSE to move him now with Scott as insurance and draft a CB in round 1. Jackson is unlikely to be back next year, and you probably upgrade both Nickel and Safety. If they are considering trading up, Delane could fall into their crosshairs--unlikely, but he could.  If not, they could like Terrell or McCoy---just sayin.
    • Proctor is gonna be a love/hate prospect and even his lovers will likely admit that the bust factor is high. You gotta want a giant mauler of an OT to love him and even if you want a giant mauler OT you're still concerned if he's going to have the movement skills in space to handle NFL speed rushers. Honestly, I think he's gonna bust.
