Rumor circulating between a potential Panthers/Niners QB swap... Teddy B for Jimmy G

Not sure how credible, but he's a former raider player and a former radio show host. He also has a blue check mark so that's gotta mean something right?

"Blue check mark" and "complete dumbass" are not mutually exclusive.

Add in "former Raider player" and "former radio host" and you're rapidly gaining on "complete dumbass" status!

For the 49ers they would be getting picks and a QB thats able to play 15/16 games and backup if needed.

Panthers would be able to get off paying Teddy 10 mill, no matter what. Thats his guarantees, along with another 8 million in base.

They must not like the other options out there, I want them to stay put at 8 and hope theres a QB they like still available. Plus being in 5 deals, puts more control in your hands.

I didn't read past the first post saying it was player for player. Is there something saying picks would be involved?  Ythey have comparable contracts the remainder. I don't see significant play or contract advantages for either team

Oh, you guys are missing the boat. Jimmy has $0 guaranteed. Bring him into camp and see what happens but still draft a QB of the future.

Worst case, he sucks and you cut him. Then it’s we traded Teddy and his $10M guarantee for a 2nd. Are you shitting me? I’d give a 4th or 5th just to have a team take Teddy off our hands if it means we save $18M in cap space.

Heck, I’d do this trade today and cut Jimmy tomorrow. Save $18M and get a 2nd, heck ya.

Yeah this is what I was asking on the first page. If it alleviates cap who cares as long as we don’t think jimmy is the future.

This could be a win for both teams.

SF is in a win now mode - they just need a guy that is steady, doesn't make a lot of mistakes, and can stay healthy.  Teddy can be a decent game manager.  With the defense and Kittle, he might have some success.  He wouldn't need to put up 30 every week to have a shot at winning.

Jimmy is much better (if healthy).  If we get an extra 2nd, this will allow us to move up a bit and grab our developmental QB to sit for a year.

I think the panthers will get one of the big 4, but will want to sit him a while to learn the ropes.

This may be true.  I'm not a fan of Jimmy G but if we could get an extra pick out of it we might be in better shape to make a deal. We draft our future starter and have that extra pick to build an O-line.

If these numbers and facts on Jimmy G are true, great. He was the one bad move I have seen fron the 49ers new staff. We can cut him and save lots of cash to sign better free agents which we need.

I still think BB goes after him for a later round pick.

I don't see how/why SF takes on Teddy's whole contract hit. That would have to be a specific term of the deal - why would they get an equivalent-at-best QB that is more expensive?

You have no idea how to read a contract.

Bridgewaters' signing bonus cap hit doesn't disappear when he's traded we still get his bonus proration hit on our cap but all at once.

Then in the same vein, Jimmy G's signing bonus doesn't hit our cap regardless so saying he has no guaranteed money is irrelevant if we trade for him. That's true of any player acquired by trade.

If he plays for us his 800,000 per game roster bonus and 600,000 workout does hit our cap.

Given they have similar salaries we would be hit with Teddy's prorated bonus just to switch to a similarly salaried turd.

Not saying this is anything but a completely made up rumor. If true, I’d make the deal in a second and let the coaches decide if they can salvage Jimmy. If not, added cap space and a draft pick is a great result.

Sure if SF's willing to take the whole contract off the books but that's my point - why would SF do that? Without the money off the books the only real reason for Carolina to make this trade would seemingly be because all goodwill between Teddy and the team is gone (wouldn't really surprise me at this point) and they aren't confident they'll get 'their guy' this offseason.

    • Like many of the old heads, I’ve been here for a long time.  I got a lot of respect for everyone on this board for your dedication to this team.  We’ve all been through it during the tougher years. At this point in life, I’m not one to judge anyone’s level of dedication, or their reasons why anymore.  Time, and a lot of bad football, will do that.  For me, it’s simple.  We share a common bond.  For that, I love and appreciate all of you crazy SOB’s. For me, last season was at a minimum, entertaining.  BY lead a young team to multiple come from behind 4th qtr wins.  That showed me heart, and that he has the clutch gene.  That’s the wildcard intangible.  For me, that was fun to watch even  if it was mindbogglingly frustrating at times.  Over the past two seasons, we have progressively built a better team around him.  On paper, the defense should be better this season.  That’ll help.  Let’s see what he can do as the other guys continue to develop too.  Besides, his contract is cheap for a few more years, and we just made some smart cap decisions during the draft. Let’s see how it shakes out.
    • Hiring Shula & his Cam save us playbook.
    • I would very much liked to have seen Jake Delhomme's career if Tommy Jone no hurt Jake.  I just know that roster and the leadership were destined to hit paydirt but Jake was never the same after the elbow injury, and unfortunately he was the sole reason they didn't make it back to the big one.  I think that 08 team was the best in the league, and Jake masked his inability well all season til the Arizona game put it all on display.  I'll go back to the season prior even and say the 07 team was primed to be a competitor.  Jake was off to a fantastic start that year (for a Panthers QB).  They may have been a championship caliber club for a few seasons after 08 too.
