Chris Simms “no way the panthers draft Lance at 8”

If you draft Lance, you don't draft him thinking he's going to light the league on fire in his rookie year. With reps, he will get better and better if given competent teaching and development. His upside is sky high.

You don't draft a QB whose floor is higher, but whose upside is substantially lower just because you're desperate for a quick fix. To me, that's pretty ill-advised, if not outright dumb. With a top 10 pick, you're investing long term, not short, otherwise you can just keep the likes of Bridgewater, or some other JAG who needs everything near perfect to get you to where you want to go.

Running is a big part of his game and there are serious questions about his level of competition. If he could run fast it would definitely help him. My point is that I don't think he can.

You think Lamar Jackson lasts until #32 if he had gone out there and ran sub-4.4 like he's probably capable? Now I get why he chose not to run. Some teams were talking possible position change with him and he was adamant about staying at QB. But no one is talking position change with Lance.

Does Cam look fast when he’s running? He doesn’t but his 40 time was better than most. I think a lot of QBs are just trying to get out of teams viewing them as just athletes. I think he’s pretty mobile no matter  who he’s on the field with. The exact speed doesn’t matter. He knows he doesn’t run a 4.4 but probably runs a 4.6, 4.8, or 4.9 depending on the day. If you know you can’t guarantee that kind of speed why risk it?

He's got stud written all over him. His arm talent is crazy + has mobility.

I like Wilson as much as Burrow. He makes far hash throws look easy, again, his arm talent is ridiculous.

I don't really care who he played, he passes the eye test.

He bails out of clean pockets often and it isn’t like he is worried about SEC level athletes coming at him.

that’s probably his biggest knock

Cam looks like Julius Peppers running....and was able to one man show it to a natty in the SEC.   Running over and around those SEC athletes.  That ain’t Lance’s resume or style.

The odds 1 QB in a given draft, regardless of what round taken, will become a great NFL starter, is not high ..

The odds 2 QB's in a given draft will become a great NFL starter, lower ..

The odds, 3, 4, QB's ... even lower

Its Lawrence, Wilson, then a bunch of trash .. those two QB's are all that will be legit QB's

Justin Fields was 1b with Trevor until Ohio St was ravaged by COVID and could barely field a team.   And started off the season before COVID hit them looking like the best QB in all of college football.

he isn’t trash.

If you look at Lance and watch him move and throw you can clearly see that he is a superior athlete. He has a rare combination of arm strength, speed, and power. The problem is that it's impossible to properly evaluate him given the plays he ran, the level of competition, and the few number of passes he attempted. You have to take a bit of a leap of faith with Lance, but the athletic gifts are clearly there.

Mahomes did that a ton at Texas tech. That was one of his biggest knocks. I’d even go as far to say Lance has better footwork in the pocket coming out as a redshirt freshman than Mahomes did as a two year starter. The question we should be asking is do we think he is coachable and can he continue to elevate his play at the next level. And do we want to take that risk at #8. I get the people saying no and I get the people saying yes. I would take the gamble if other options aren’t available. I would not trade up for him though.

Read this article, it should put a lot of concerns to rest.

Trey Lance Article

Working out at a performance center in Florida, he ran a 4.5 40 and was faster than some WRs, even DBs. His vert would be 2nd all-time if done at the combine.   Y'all want polished, I get it, but I'm saying this dude will ultimately be the second, if not THE best NFL QB in this class by the second contract.

    • Btw... only Mitch fugging Marner has a better +/- than Key 🔑!!! And, Mitchy needed 5 more games and almost 100 more shifts to get there.
    • I was honestly flabbergasted to see Rod send out Stanky and the boys to to matchup against their top line to start the game. The reason that line has been so effective is because they've been matched mostly against 2nd and 3rd lines all year. You've got last change. Use it to your advantage.
    • Nobody played well on defense last night. But, the vitriol towards Chatfield (and to a lesser extent, K'andre) is bigly misplaced. People (not just you) just refuse to accept how bad Slavin has been this season. And, I get it. Canes fans (and informed analysts) have spent nearly a decade trying to explain to casuals just how good Jaccccob is at hockey. 4Nations happened and the hockey watching public started to listen. National media even started floating the idea of creating a new award in his honor. Then this season, he gets hurt. It happens. NBD. But, when he finally came back, it wasn't the same. He'll get back to his old self in no time. Probably just some rust, it'll be fine. Only, it wasnt rust, and he's not fine. He's bad right now. It wasnt just last night. Although, that was absolutely the worst game of his NHL career. Slavin (-4) currently has the 3rd worst +/- of anyone left in the playoffs. We've  been begging the world to recognize Jaccob Slavin's greatness. And, by the time we finally got people to listen, he shits the bed! I blame Kash!
