  1. 1. Who do you think will be the Panther 2021 starting QB? Not who do you want, but who do you think it will be?

It was pretty darn likely. "Imminent" is just that.

My guess is Fields or Wilson.

I didn't know how that whole saga was gonna play out, but I sure as hell didn't see it ending like this.

I'm never a fan of when Football stories become something other than football stories.

Voted Teddy as it's the most likely option for game 1.

  • If we draft a QB, they'll probably sit until after our bye week.
  • If we trade for DW (which I still think it possible) he may not be able to play week 1.
  • Like other posters have said, I think Darnold is the most likely non-Teddy option as a week 1 starter at this point.

Panthers trade up with the Jets to number 2 and select Zach Wilson, BYU. Panthers give up 2021 #8, 2022 and 2023 1st round picks.

3 first round picks for an unproven rookie that played for BYU against minimal competition? I certainly hope not.

The way the league is structured, if you truly want to be successful then you need to draft a QB and hit a home run and maintain other assets to build around him. But I certainly wouldn’t give 3 picks away for a small school prospect. I wouldn’t even do it for Treavor Lawrence. If we doesn’t pan out then we are postponing this rebuild for 3 more years potentially. No thanks.

I'd say zero chance of it being Watson after what we heard from Verge yesterday (not that it seemed all that likely as it was).

If the team drafts a rookie, there's still a pretty good chance that this year's starter is Bridgewater unless they acquire another veteran.

What was said yesterday?

I would not exactly call BYU a small school.  North Dakota State is a small school....

Pretty much my thoughts exactly.

If Lawrence were somehow the pick, then I think he would start (largely because that would mean we wound up with the #1 pick).  Fields or Wilson could be the week 1 starter if they were selected, but the odds would be slim.  Beyond that the odds go down even more.

People need to remember this was never a one-year rebuild.  Tepper warned us as much.  This was an entire reconstruction of the roster, organization, and philosophy.  TB was brought in as the immediate starter because he knew the offense, essentially given a two year contract with a decision point for a third year if he blossomed into the role and became the answer for the long haul.  It was structured that way, most likely, because everybody realized we had many more needs than just at QB.

Well, everybody except about 30-40% of The Huddle.

Otherwise, find the heir-apparent and let him watch for a bit.  The NFL is faster than college and DBs are generally smarter (with the possible exception of some of ours).  I'm sure it looks even more so from the field, whether between the sidelines on on one of them.

Also, keep in mind our depth chart at QB is basically one deep.  It has been for a couple of years.  Might be nice to have some depth on the depth chart at the position.

We still have a lot more needs than just QB.  Fewer than last year at this time, but still plenty.  Unless the relationship between TB and the team has been slaughtered, the original plan (potentially less the possibility TB is the answer) still looks pretty reasonable.  The cost of breaking the lease with TB this year is pretty stiff, so unless someone is willing to "sublet" the place, he is still here.

    • I can say that I have defended Canales because I get that they are doing all they can to keep from looking like idiots for drafting Bryce, from the trade up to signing $150m guards to drafting XL and Brooks etc---nothing seems to work.  And Hiring Canales was part of the Bryce Young rehab program, so so he can't really decide to "move on."  That has to come from Morgan and Tepper. Personally, I think Bryce is due for an injury.  He is small, he is not thick, and he has been a LOT more healthy than most any other QB has who has endured so much pressure.  The thing that bothers me is this---Bryce really does not go through his progressions quickly.  He locks on to his presnap read and stays locked onto him for too long--he seems to fail to anticipate the WR/TE's positioning on the play before the cut--for example, if the WR is running a dig and the CB has his back to the inside of the field, he should be open for a second or less just after the cut.  He seems to wait until the cut has been made before deciding, then checking down quickly while moving in the pocket. OL:  There seems to be a lack of communication--is that on Mays?  Watch this team presnap--they seem a bit confused at times.   I can almost predict the success rate of the play by watching the center and QB before the snap.
    • Anyone else remember back in 2010 when Fox piloted having music under the in-game replays during one of Carolina's games? Not the commercial bumpers but the actual replay clips that the announcers would talk over. Pretty sure it was vs the 49ers. And it was terrible. Point being, Carolina continues being so bad that we get the networks trying things out during their games.
    • Is it bad I found this video more hilarious than pathetic? I am still laughing at that one play where half the people on the field ran into each other and Bryce still couldn't see Chuba wide open... Also laughing at Cade blocking nobody and somehow losing his cleat Man this offense is a poo show
