If Darnold plays poorly next year, we traded what will be a 1st round pick for him.

How does 2nd rounder 1 year out = 1st round pick?  I get the point that if we are the worst team, it will be the 33rd overall pick.  But, there is a time value associated with these picks you know.

Agreed, I really dislike the argument of “it’s basically a first round pick” and then calling a second a first, just because it’s high in the second round. I get draft value, a lot of the prospects around there are similar, but it’s still a second rounder.  That’s why they have different rounds and not just one massive chucklefug round of drafting.

Also a pet peeve, when someone says SF gave up 3 firsts to move up to number 3 overall.  No, they gave up 2 firsts.  They still have a first round pick this year and did not lose 3 total firsts.  That bugs the hell out of me when people talk about trading.  Always used to make a trade sound worse than it is.  Nobody asked but I wanted to vent 🤷🏻‍♂️

I didn't want Darnold, but... let's just. let. this. thing. play. out.

Good or bad move, time will tell.

You realize that if he throws a bad pass in his very first series with us in the preseason, people will be declaring that he's a bust and they knew it and they don't need to see anymore, right?

But they literally did give up three first round picks. Now granted they got a first round pick back, but how else would you possibly word it?

“They gave up two first round picks”

Edit:to me, “giving up” means total loss. I guess that’s where the difference is

Teddy was mediocre, but a competent game manager with good skill players.  Darnold has bee a complete dumpster fire, and you don't win more than 4 games with him unless he improves tremendously.

I think if Darnold improves quite a bit he could get us to 6 wins...possible.
