like if sewell is there and they trade down i'm going to pull a sherman on mint street

Sewell is not going to be there. I’d bet a large amount of money on that.

They probably have one guy they’re confident in - Pitts or Slater I don’t know but they are probably feeling things out in case that player is gone.

If ya only have one player that may or may not be there this is the route to go. It doesn’t mean if somehow a player falls they didn’t expect they will still trade down. No reason to freak out.

You also have to consider how the draft plays out and just how valuable that 8 pick may be to another team.

I’d assume if the Panthers do trade down it will happen draft night. If it happens before, yea I’d be scratching my head unless we hustle someone for picks.

Sure. Then pick another in Round Two because keep swinging, right?

If a QB you have a first round grade on falls to the 2nd round, yep. I’d be absolutely fine with letting them battle it out for QB1 then flipping the other for picks/players.

You can frame the competition to the media in a way that doesn’t harm either QB’s rep. “Hard fought battle through training camp narrowly won by such and such” even if that’s not truly the case.

Think about this nightmare scenario

JAX - Lawrence
NYJ - Wilson
SF - Fields
ATL - Pitts
CIN - Sewell
MIA - Slater
DET - Lance

I'd be looking to trade down. It's good Fitts has already made some calls.

Bruh, nightmare? You'll have your choice between Chase, Surtain II, Slater, Smith, Waddle or Parsons! I'll be in the cut doing the Birdman hand rub. Elite talent, just waiting for you to grab! Don't be afraid to add elite talent to your roster. That's how you build great teams.

Nope. That'd be enough for this off-season.

I just don't think we should pass on a QB we like at #8 due to Sam Darnold. If we don't like the QBs at #8, sure trade down. But Sam Darnold being on the roster shouldn't impact that draft selection. History indicates the odds of Sam Darnold being our answer are pretty slim.

John Clayton in the washpost.  Sounds good to me !

The Washington Football Team will be calling around for a chance at one of the five first-round quarterbacks, but they have a problem: Their division rivals own the 10th (Cowboys), 11th (Giants) and 12th (Eagles) picks, meaning their trade-up options are limited.

But one option exists: the Panthers, Ron Rivera’s former team. Now that Carolina has traded for Sam Darnold, it probably isn’t looking to draft a QB and might be willing to move back to Washington’s 19th pick. To get a deal done, it might require Washington giving up both of its 2021 third-round picks and next year’s first-rounder.

This NFL draft could feature several trades. Here are some possibilities. - The Washington Post

If Sewell, Pitts and Fields are all gone, I'd see if Philly is willing to give up their extra 1st in 2022 to move up to 8. Maybe they anticipate Miami's 1st will be in the 20s and consider giving that. I'd do that for sure and land either Slater or Darrisaw at 12 as one of them should be there. I'd probably be wary of trading back any further and losing out on one of the elite talents, even with a good haul.
