Former Jets scout Daniel Kelly on Trey Lance

I’m not huge on Lance, but this is a former Jets scout...

In the scout's defense, it's not like the former Jets coaches could have done anything with any QB they drafted. Had those guys coached Dan Marino right out of college, he'd have been out of the league within two years. Not sure they wouldn't have ruined either Manning.

I've seen several scout types say that Lance has unequivocally the best arm in the draft class, so for this scout to be so definitive about his lack of arm strength relative to other busts... I dunno. it felt personal to me. certainly did not come across as impartial. far from it. proceed with caution.

Former.

Jets.

You see where I'm going.

There's a former... Jets... head coach up in New England that's not doing too bad.

This whole idea that somebody who was previously part of a bad organization is necessarily bad themselves is a really dumb concept.

And he is making coherent points.  I think our staff evaluated him and saw some of the same things.

I know Daniel and he is a very respectable former scout who worked hard to be where he is at, but sheesh, this is a pretty bad take.

The tone is incredibly harsh.

I'm used to seeing scouts say "he does this well, this not so much, etc etc" but this? Ouch.

Granted he could turn out to be right, but damn 😳

Great find. I have been saying this for a long time. I get the luxury of watching him play in the Missouri Valley. Take for example, a team Lance plays against offers 0, yes that is right, 0 football athletic scholarships. Missouri State. So most of the talent he plays against is someone who "might" be able to pull off a  Daniel "Rudy" Ruettiger in D1. There isn't much talent in the MVC outside of the Dakota teams. Since very little D1 schools recruit players in that area.

Maybe the next tangible super qb will come from the NCAA III.

    • I don’t remember Mills from the USFL days just when he was in NO.  But when you saw Smitty it screamed oh yeah, this guy has something. Immediately. So, have not seen anything that dramatic with Young. All I know about him says he is solid with his character and smarts and don’t see a lot of that translating into screaming he really has something. I think the people that say he could possibly acceptably run an offense designed around him, with top flight talent in support, are probably about right. But I can’t see any Pro Bowls or lofty accomplishments in my crystal ball.
    • I thought I read they’d still be there but as a backup in case of malfunction.  So it’s not so much a goodbye as it is they’re being sidelined (I’ll see myself out)
    • Their forecheck is relentless because they are so physical and heavy.  It’s just a perfect mashup for how they play. Florida before Paul Marice played just like us. Speed but with finesse.  Paul made them but into playing heavy. They went and got players that added to that style he wants and it works.  Plus they have the best goalie in the league.  That helps more than anything. The canes have got let Koochie be their guy he will never become the star that most think he will if rod keeps sticking with vets that flame out.    1. Koochie or a Soros type player  2. Switch to zone defense  3. Get heavier.    like I said, I love Rod. Best pro coach ever in the Carolinas sports buy he is holding us back with his philosophy and style.  He is the reason.  He can change all of that with decisions.
