He was talking about us.

Well, for a while I couldn't explain what we were doing either.  It didn't start to make sense until about halfway through.  Now I kinda understand what they want to do. It's bold and carries a lot of risk if they do not chose wisely.

But I like it personally.  Building a roster from the bottom up is hard to do because owners are not patient enough. Also the deeper the team gets it in theory gets better which puts them further down down in the draft in picking to restock with youth.

But the beautiful part is they will already be accustomed to drafting low by then.

The hard part is finding the QB to top it of.  I pray Darnold can be salvaged.

Lance ended up in a great spot. Can sit behind Jimmy G until he is ready or Jimmy gets hurt. He will have a solid line, defense and running game along with a big target in Kittle. Throw all of this in with what might be the best offensive mind in the game and he should reach his potential IMO.

No way to see what comes in the future ....but talk about buyer’s remorse if your are SF.  I would imagine Rodgers would be in a 49ers uniform if they had that draft capital they used up to get the #3 spot when they were negotiating with Green Bay.

Meanwhile I got laughed at for suggesting that Charlie Campbell at Walterfootball is still the best mock drafter and he got the first 8 picks correct including being on the "Jaycee Horn to Carolina" train ever since they traded for Darnold

Really! Wow. That's clueless. Maybe they confuse him with Walter, who from time to time seems to have no clue about teams needs.

Charlie always do good. Him and Eval Silva is solid. Also glad Josh Norris has a good record. He seem to always be talking about the Panthers. Maybe he is a fan.

I'm curious about Brett Kollmann. I'm not sure he got any beyond #1 but then again I'm not watching 3 hours of mock draft video to see how bad he was again. I think he purposely doesn't publish his picks in a way where it can easily be graded.

Simms didn't dictate that.

Effectively speaking, the 49ers did.

Pretty much everybody thought the 49ers were taking Mac Jones from the day they traded up to #3 right up till the last couple of days before the draft. And even then, people were treating the talk about Trey Lance as rumors.

Their smokescreen game was damn near perfect.

That wasn't a smokescreen lol there was zero incentive or logic behind them smokescreening.  They traded an enormous haul to move up to 3rd to be in the driver's seat since the first two picks were essentially locked in with Lawrence & Wilson.  They wouldn't trade what they did to move up to 3rd, only to trade back down for undoubtedly less compensation than they gave up.  Furthermore, they wouldn't choose to deceive people into thinking they were going to take Mac freaking Jones at #3...they're giving up their leverage since he wasn't exactly a hot commodity on most teams' boards.  Teams would be more likely to trade to #4 if they thought they were taking Mac Jones.

Chris Simms value was where he picked qbs and then we saw how they actually worked out. So let's see how they actually perform versus how he ranked them this year. Mocks are really useless given a few wrong picks in the top 15 jumbled everything up.  Plus if teams don't trade as expected or they trade unexpectedly, it throws everything out of balance.  They can generally be useful for relative tracking but not for specific picks.

Kiper is a running joke these days, but the man made a terrific point about the Panthers picking up Darnold who even after his years with the Jets that he would have been the #2 QB in this draft slotted behind Lawrence...and McShay agreed with him.

I give him credit for putting that out there and hope to all things holy he is right.

That isn't encouraging to have that dufus KOD'ing our new QB.

To be fair this was a tough draft to predict. There’s also just too many factors to not only predict when someone is drafted but how successful they will be in the NFL. all it takes is for one team to pick someone different and the whole board is messed up.

    • Even all the rookie QB's who haven't played a single snap ranked above him? I really hope Bryce is using all this as motivation in some capacity. Because if this doesn't motivate him I don't know what will.
    • Of course. That’s what I said. Bad goalie play and the style of defense. Florida played amazing.  Rods decision to stick with a struggling Freddie cost us. Plus, Florida may be more talented than us and they play a very heavy game. Something we don’t do well minus Svech.  Glad the rangers lost.
    • You should because before the preseason fiasco and the start of the season fiasco, all the reports, including Frank’s responses, were that Fitterer and Reich were in lock step. Remember the press conference where Fitterer talked about both he and Frank saying who they wanted before and after the draft process and that they both picked Young and it was glorious? People got hung up on Tepper saying the point guard analogy in April when Brown was interviewed by a Panthers reporter describing how a QB needs to be a point guard in huge detail. That was in February. I think Tepper was just parroting Brown to make himself look like he knew what he was doing. Mrs. Tepper hugging Bryce always overshadowed CJ saying how he called her Mama Tepp. We fuged up as a team, probably more so because Fitterer always said he had Young as his #1 the year before, probably because we looked at all the QBs that year as well. Reich’s love for CJ started when he got on the hot seats for frankly doing a horrific job. He's been in the league a long time and has a lot of media friends and that was a face saving CYA which we know well with many years of Hurney. Still amazing to think how much better the team was under Rhule/Hurney before Fitterer got any control when Rhule was on the hot seat.
