How athletic IS Deonte Brown? aka Corn Bread/Big Bread

Came across this Alabama spotlight, and it shows clips of him playing basketball... at 400 lbs. That big boys got some moves, so I'm glad to see he's not just a sit and maul kinda guard, he can actually move and has some athleticism to probably get out there at the second level to block.

Deonte reported in at mini-camp at 347 pounds. He was 364 pounds at the Senior Bowl, and that extra weight hurt his performance imo. Deonte may never be able to get down to 330 pounds, but maybe he can take off a few more and get to 340.

We absolutely don't want Deonte playing a full NFL season anywhere near the 364 pounds he used to be. The 347 he is at now might be close to as low as he is ever going to be especially as he adds muscle in the NFL strength and conditioning program. Think what this monster will turn into with NFL level weight lifting.

I feel 330 would be the perfect weight for him

Agreed. He can definitely get down to 330 or even lower. As a professional athlete, he is going to have access to more resources than he did at Alabama. If he doesn't have access through the team, he should definitely be looking at getting a nutritionist, as well. 

Keeping the weight down isn't magic, it just takes lifestyle changes and discipline.

More resources but probably taking a pay cut from his Alabama days…..

You do of course realise he went to Alabama, right?

This isn't some small school kid that's going to grow when he hits the NFL. He went to a (disgusting) football factory that maxes out it's players physically.

Our best hope is that he trims down to 320-330lbs and regains some of that athleticism as he looked immobile in Mobile.

This isn't college basketball where players go to school for one year and play basketball.  He, I assume, graduated which means he had to attend class.  I'm not 100% sure of this but aren't college players limited in the time they can practice and workout while in college.

He'll have far more time to workout in the NFL. 

I don't know if many of you remember the 80's but during my time at ECU there was an article about weight training rooms across the country.  ECU was behind only Oklahoma and Penn St (as I recall) in quality of Weight Rooms.   ECU had one of the best in the country back then.  I'm sure now that has changed.

      Losing Necas would be worse than a majority of Canes fans think.  When he's on he controls the puck with speed and gains zone entry so well, he is still young.  He should be considered part of our core.
