Questions about Newton's status in NE?

I'd be pretty surprised if NE outright cut Cam before the season.  But I'd also be equally surprised if Cam is their starting QB at the midway point in the season.  He's their best known commodity at QB at this point, but Belichick obviously isn't committed to him by any means.

Can Cam be a good backup though? Dude has been so used to being "The Man" since dominating at Auburn, can his personality and ego take the hit of not being a starter?

It's unknown territory. I mean he's been on the sidelines with a clipboard before....but that was because of injuries. I'm not questioning if he's a good teammate (plenty of evidence he was always good to the squad) but can the dude handle being demoted?

If New England wants to move on from him they should look to swap him for Foles in Chicago. Cam can help groom Fields and Foles would be much better than Stidham or Hoyer to learn from in NE. Both teams win.

I love Cam, but I don't think any teams will be clamoring for him to be the role model for their rookie QB. Hard worker and great player in his time, but not quite the fit for what you are talking about. Teddy would be, but not Cam IMO.

Newton strikes me as the type of guy to walk away from the game before he'd accept being a backup.

Here are the teams with the least space...

No shock who's at the top, but also noteworthy that every other team in our division is on that list.

Julio will be traded after June 1.  It's the only option they have to sign their draft picks, and that June 1 designation will mean his new team will only have to pay him 7.75 million for the next 3 years.  But since the Saints and Bucs can't afford him, Julio will no longer be in our division.

its almost like they don't expect newton to finish the season healthy.

How dare you.

THE PJ Walker is undefeated and has beaten opponents by an average of 20 pts per game in the NFL.

If he maintains such a pace, he basically will be Bo Jackson in tecmo bowl and go down in Panther history.

I imagine him landing in Raider land or the Bills

Depends what you are looking to get from him.

Bill loves Cam to a large degree.   His work ethic.  His accountability.  How he gives everything in his tank.  How serious and important winning is.   First on the field.  And Cam is a great locker room guy.

Depends what you want a vet to give to your young guy….I mean they have coaches for mechanics and all that.

    • Was just explaining this to some dummy named Willy in another thread. I think he was just smoking’ too much cheese.  This has been going on for ages. Trent dilfer got all the ladies and threw just as many TDs as interceptions. This was the more violent era of football. The soft mfrs wanna see the passing TDs but the truth is that ain’t what ultimately wins football games. It’s a STRONG D, and an unstoppable run game, with some passes to keep the defense honest, if a for a TD great. in fact I would venture to say that the two panthers super bowls consisted of the same except cam threw more tds than interceptions and could run like Jamal Lewis and priest Holmes. its a tale as old as time. Something all ball knowers understand.
    • This team just traded a 2nd round pick for Bradley Chubbs. Edge, Miami Dolphins.
    • Ngl, as good as I felt about us after winning yesterday, when they showed the top NFC teams on SNF, I realized what a crazy year this is.  The NFC seems uncommonly top heavy.  As of today, we aren’t anywhere near playoff positioning, which at 5-4 seems very, very weird compared to most years.  I know things will shake out further as the season goes on and it likely won’t look the same, but I have the feeling it’s one of those years that you’ll need like 11 wins to get in as a wildcard. seems very like a very pantherish thing to rebound this year and that’s what it would take.
