Speaking of the guys who call Panther games: Steve Smith, Sr.

Gotta figure Jim Szoke probably gets the first shot at that job (and deservedly so) but you never know.

I remember liking Zarzour when he was on WFNZ. Unfortunately, he was partnered with colossal dickhead Marc (with a 'c') James.

Jim is good in pre-season but he is best as color guy IMHO.  Taylors play by play delivery is smooooth (so much better than Mic).

I haven't heard any of Zarzour's play by play at least not that I recall.

I did think he was good on WFNZ though.

Szoke is as knowledgeable and has seen as much if not more live Panthers games than anyone.  He has a wealth of experience to draw from and that's why he is best suited as someone to discuss the team not necessarily call the games. I've interviewed Jim myself and hes a natural radio talent.  It was so much fun picking his brain for the 30 minutes he gave us.  Good guy too.

Smith is a goober-head of a person, but I think he will tell it like it is---and that is great for preseason.  I liked Rucker, fwiw, but he was nice all the time.  Smith is likely to be more candid.

One thing that bothers me about some recent players who hit the booth:  They tend to relate everything to their situations.

I was not a Rucker or Donnelly fan at all, rucker did get better after a few years. I got no idea how smitty will do, hes hit and miss on NFL. His timing, wording, and delivery are his issues. I do like his real comments, hes still rough about waiting his turn and getting mush mouthed. Smitty sorta reminds me of Shaq, who is too thinned skin to be around the goat Charles. How will smith react when someone questions his statements live or when he is incorrect on a players name or just making live mistakes in general ??...hmmm Smith is the type that wants you press his buttons or he doesnt respect you, Jake did and they got along great. I never get along with those types.
