The Ravens are here. 

 

 

Matt Rhule has said the reason he wanted to have two joint practice weeks with different NFL teams was to give Sam Darnold a good amount of reps against other guys without the worry of getting hit. He felt this would be a good way to get Sam comfortable with the offense. Will it work?

Playing down to your competition doesn't make you better.

We need this from coaches to players more than most NFL teams do. From top to bottom in the organization, we are green as hell and this type of stuff helps accelerate everyone's learning curve. It also gives the coaches a great look at our deficiencies and what needs to be improved on. 

I don't think this will necessarily pay off in a noticeable way this season but I think it will pay off in the coming seasons.

Why is he hiding Sam? Sam is going to get hit. Let the guy play football. He's protecting his biggest investment because as Sam goes, Rhule goes and they may follow each other out the door if Sam fails.

Rhule made a HUGE bet on Sam.

Being late August and a 17 game schedule is around the corner would it not be more prudent at this stage to get him used to live fire so to speak in this offense rather than trying to stage favorable scenarios for him? It seems like we are being more cautious with him than some teams with actual rookie quarterbacks.

We haven’t even finalized the starting O-line yet. Don’t put him back there until we at least know the best group to protect him.

The Colts did not play their starters so Rhule did not play starters. Fitt is the GM that traded for Darnold.

      I mean in this economy, companies have to be smarter with their spending. Sending reporters to Charlotte to cover a moribund, Pop Warner-level franchise is the ultimate waste of money that should get execs fired. If the media were being kept out, they'd report that--it's the most self-important profession in the world. Even for the locals who know "Panthers suck yet again" stories get them no clicks. Bottom line, no conspiracy here. They're just not worth covering.
