Now. let's have someone who's actually in touch with reality try it. You're calling people future stars based on preseason stats and "very capable backups" when they make one tackle in garbage time.

2021 Draft

  • 1 - Jaycee Horn (CB), USCe - good start to rookie year, will miss 82% of the season
  • 2 - Terrace Marshall Jr. (WR), LSU - shown flashes of being a very good player *in preseason*, 116 receiving yards in 6 games
  • 3 - Brady Christensen (OL), BYU - coaching staff sold us on him in May, doesn't seem to trust him now
  • 3 - Tommy Tremble (TE), ND - respectable rookie season so far, has multiple tools
  • 4 - Chuba Hubbard (RB), Ok St. - best pick we made; coincidentally the one I liked best in April
  • 5 - Daviyon Nixon (DT), Iowa - not bad but a JAG so far, averages 1 tackle per game
  • 5 - Keith Taylor (CB), Wash - looked good against MIN but jury's still out
  • 6 - Deonte Brown (OL), Alabama - Has played 5 ST snaps, can't see the field at all. Bust
  • 6 - Shi Smith (WR), USCe - 2 catches, 20 yards so far; "flashed" is essentially public relations talk
  • 6 - Thomas Fletcher (LS), Alabama - wasted pick; already have a great LS
  • 7 - Phil Hoskins (DT), Kentucky - has played as many games as you this season

2020 Draft

  • 1 - Derrick Brown (DT), Auburn - stud DT, solid pick
  • 2 - Yetur Gross-Matos (DE), Penn St. - "v capable starter" LOL he's averaging 25% of defensive snaps and hasn't made a tackle since Week 2
  • 2 - Jeremy Chinn (S), South. Ill. - stud DB/LB, hit on this one
  • 4 - Troy Pride Jr. (CB), ND - gave him a shot, failed
  • 5 - Kenny Robinson Jr. (S), WVU - made his first real NFL play on Sunday
  • 6 - Bravvion Roy (DT), Baylor - look left for the reason he's still on the roster
  • 7 - Stantley Thomas-Oliver (CB), Fl. Int - gave him a shot, failed

So Brown and Chinn hit last year. Hubbard looks like he hit this year and if Horn doesn't become injury-prone he's good as well, but giving the guy 10 quarters and calling him a star is absolute bullshit. I like Tremble as well and Marshall looked great in the preseason and before getting hurt, was an afterthought. Overall, we bought a lot of lottery tickets and most of them were not winners.

Hey don’t bring those facts into an emotional conversation!

It seems you are also spending your money (apparently far more than the rest of us, and for longer!!!!!) supporting a losing team.

Don't whine about how you spend your money and not being happy with the result then, it's that simple.  If you want to make an impact speak with your wallet, otherwise you too are supporting a losing team.  Just being a hypocrite about it.

I’m supporting a team that I want for them to win.

I think what we've learned is a talented, but young team is making mistakes, as expected, after an initial explosion.

This team still lacks a bit of talent, depth, and some injury luck.

The offensive line wasn't fixed, Brady still has issues with his play calling and moving the rock on the ground, and Sam is better than in New York, but still up and down as he figures out the system.

Getting rid of Teddy and signing a draft class wasn't ever going to be enough to overcome all our issues from last season.

We may be a playoff team with CMC, but without him that becomes increasingly doubtful.

No one should be jumping off a bridge, especially the guys that rode high this off-season and through the first few weeks. This is a process, and we're still on schedule.

I think Sam is on pace for his second best season of his career.   His best season still being the last time NY actually tried to win with him.

I didn't ask why you're supporting them, sir, and I really don't care.  My base assumption is anyone supporting a team probably wants them to win (unless, of course, you're talking about that one game last year when this place melted down because we won too many games?). However the blatant hypocrisy of bragging about how much money you've spent on this team and for how long you've been doing so while questioning why others are supporting the same team is mind bogglingly absurd.  Equally useless is trying to bludgeon others into taking your view with the length of your fandom and your age.  I mean my dad has a picture of us the night the Hornets gave Kareem a rocking chair - does that make my opinion about them any more valid? Nah.

I suspect everyone here wants the Panthers to win and simply has a different idea about how they should go about it (NONE of which are likely to be they way they actually do).

It does seem, though, that the very first response in a thread about people needing to chill out being someone who is decidedly not chilled out (and apparently wants to engage in a school-yard style battle of "you're not the boss of me!") is evidence that the statement ABOUT chilling out is true.

Rhule's college resume is one conference title.  One.  What exactly did he build his programs into?

that tagline continues to be overstated and overrated IMO.

Rhule took teams that really sucked....and got them to where they didn't really suck by playing John Fox/Rivera football.  He wasn't a Dabo Sweeney, Saban, Chip Kelly, Spurrier, etc.  He didn't build any program into a powerhouse that withstood the test of any period of any time.

Well he built them both from literally nothing to 10 win seasons - he left both before he could really reap the benefits of what he sowed because a bigger offer came along.

Baylor was a scorched wasteland when he got there.

College to NFL is just different. Even if he is/was an amazing college coach. It takes time for even coaches to adjust and learn. Because coaches in the NFL are always learning more and adding more. They're always trying to find new ways to improve their system. Some coaches just can't keep up with the pace.

I just don't like the language.  I think it overstates what he did.  He took bad teams and got them out of the gutter.    Which is certainly noteworthy.   But overall, we don't collectively refer to that program building.

Building programs implies more IMO than what Rhule did.  It is building an org up for sustained success.  There aren't a lot of legit program builders.  There are a lot of coaches who achieve temporary success.

and it's why I always equate Rhule to Fox and Rivera.   They all play a brand of football that is good to bring to a horrible team.

We've all heard the saying "Rome wasn't built in the day". Well, neither are championship football teams in the NFL.

Like some of the other guys have posted, I didn't expect us to make the playoffs this year. I just want to see us show improvement. I figured we'd challenge for a wild card this year but far short. Make the playoffs in year 3, and be a legitimate SB threat by year 4.

It took Bill Walsh 3 seasons to get the 49ers to a SB after starting 2-14 in his first year.

Jimmy Johnson was 1-15 in his first season with Dallas. in year 3 they were a playoff team. By year 4 the Cowboys were on the verge of Back to Back titles.

Our defense isn't a finished product but we're progressing. If we can can 1 or 2 more pieces we could be a top 10 defense.

We've accumulated some talented parts on offense at the skill positions. We all know the O-line is the week spot holding us back. I'm pretty sure that'll be addressed this off-season.

Darnold has potential. Even if he isn't "the guy" we can afford to ride with him one more year until the O-line is fixed. I'd hate to have a rookie QB playing behind our current offensive line.

I'm disappointed by the losing streak, but we're still competitive. We lost 11 games last season and 3 games this season by a a score or less. And , we've played some good teams over that stretch. We're not an easy out. Once we learn how to score in the 3rd quarter and close out games we should/could be a perennial playoff team.

These two sentences contradict one another.

As an aside, sucking ass in close games is kind of an indicator you've got a terrible coach. But hey! 11 more chances to do it! Strap in and have fun!

    • Gonna have to strongly disagree with you here. Here are the last 20 Super Bowls - only two of them IMO had QB that didn't play like Superman to get them there/win the game/both, and that was Peyton in 2015 and Ben in 2005. Even then they both had that ability, Peyton was just old and Ben young. That said, there were flashes in the pan like Foles in 2017 and (to a lesser degree) Flacco in 2012. But even counting that, it's 4/20. 20% odds aren't good enough and Bryce was absolutely drafted at #1 to be a guy that elevates an entire team and plays like Superman. If he can't do that then it's a failed pick, full stop. Being a poor man's Teddy doesn't cut it for a #1 overall and that's true for any team, not just Carolina.
    • the problem is if we're waiting for Cam v2, we're going to be waiting decades longer.  our best hope is that bryce is better than we all think he is and that canales is able to work some serious magic with him and the scheme to help him live up anywhere close to the potential we thought he had. he's a smart kid. we just have to be able to have a situation that allows him to use his smarts.  the truth with cam was that een he had to have a system tailored for his skillset coming into the league. the difference between him and luck (which was the debate in '09 when we thought luck was an option) was that with luck, he could be placed in any offense and it would work...hence the higher floor he had  than cam. cam, though, needed an offense that was built around him to reach his potential. he could have done alright in a more pro-style offense, but to reach his ceiling (which was seen by a lot of people as being higher than luck). i don't think having to have an offense tailored around what you can and can't do well is a problem for people who can develop around them...after they've truly identified what those can and can't items are. we didn't have that last year. i think we have that this year. we want a guy who can carry a team on his back, but those kind of guys are very rare. we don't need to spend our time trying  find that guy, because even when you have them there's no guarantee that they will be enough.  championships are won, quite often, by teams who learn to compensate for less than the greatest QB play. you have a great defense and can protect the ball while wearing out the other defense and you've got a chance.  we don't need Bryce to be superman (despite where we drafted him and what we paid to get him). we just need him to be able to run (manage) a good offense.
    • The Panthers aren't building a Bryce Young roster. Alabama didn't recruit personnel to fit a Bryce Young scheme. Canales' approach is to build an NFL roster (which they didn't have last season) and then cater his scheme and playcalling to what the players do best. The team is not pigeon holing itself into an offense that doesn't fit any other QB. Their goal this off-season was to provide NFL average or better talent to the offense - period. Very little to do with matching personnel for  Bryce Young's skillset or lack thereof.
