Trading for Deshaun Watson could set the Panthers back many years

Trading for a guy who might not even play? Who brings negative attention to the team? Who might look a lot worse playing for a BAD offensive coaching staff? Sounds like a great plan.

I was joking but he has played for terrible coaching staffs and had terrible surrounding talent and played terrific. There's no real risk of a massive drop-off here. Its just PR issues.

Lol....Panthers haven't been a factor since cam got hurt. Where were we going to begin with?

It’s sad too. We had a franchise QB, and it was taken from us at the blink of an eye or a tackle attempt. Screw Kelvin Benjamin.

Having a player like Darnold makes you appreciate Cam even more. I remember you had posters who were tough on Cam from the start, critiquing accuracy and other things. Darnold is everything they bashed Cam for

I get what you’re saying - but you can’t exactly say we would be “set back” when we’ve never been in a great situation anyways.  It’s a SB or bust league.  Heck, we can’t even compete in our own division.  I wouldn’t call going from a constant 3rd in the nfc south to potentially 4th a set back.  The reward outweighs the risk here.  Not saying I would be a fan of the trade, but I don’t think anything can really set us back at this point.

Set back from where?

Well imagine not having any 1st round talent the next 3 seasons, losing key defensive players like Burns and/or Chinn. And having a QB they traded for that won’t play until who knows when.

It can get a LOT worse.

“Unless Watson has all charges dropped and the accusers recant their statements”

This is something everybody has to understand will never happen. Even if he’s innocent.

Hence why I also said the part about how no one will forget these accusations and the PR nightmare that comes with it.

The only way i could see us losing chinn and Burns is if we are bad AFTER we get watson...and i do mean after he is well settled in here. If you dont get him...you are still bad with no hope for future and they leave anyway wants rookie deals up.

    • I don’t remember Mills from the USFL days just when he was in NO.  But when you saw Smitty it screamed oh yeah, this guy has something. Immediately. So, have not seen anything that dramatic with Young. All I know about him says he is solid with his character and smarts and don’t see a lot of that translating into screaming he really has something. I think the people that say he could possibly acceptably run an offense designed around him, with top flight talent in support, are probably about right. But I can’t see any Pro Bowls or lofty accomplishments in my crystal ball.
    • I thought I read they’d still be there but as a backup in case of malfunction.  So it’s not so much a goodbye as it is they’re being sidelined (I’ll see myself out)
    • Their forecheck is relentless because they are so physical and heavy.  It’s just a perfect mashup for how they play. Florida before Paul Marice played just like us. Speed but with finesse.  Paul made them but into playing heavy. They went and got players that added to that style he wants and it works.  Plus they have the best goalie in the league.  That helps more than anything. The canes have got let Koochie be their guy he will never become the star that most think he will if rod keeps sticking with vets that flame out.    1. Koochie or a Soros type player  2. Switch to zone defense  3. Get heavier.    like I said, I love Rod. Best pro coach ever in the Carolinas sports buy he is holding us back with his philosophy and style.  He is the reason.  He can change all of that with decisions.
