ESPN suggests 2 QBs for 2022 for the Panthers...

In a little imagining of how the 2022 quarterback carousel could spin, ESPN staff writer Bill Barnwell crafted together three distinct scenarios for the upcoming offseason. And one of those timelines (perhaps the worst possible one) has the Panthers acquiring good ol’ Jimmy G for a conditional 2023 draft pick.

“If the Panthers strike out in their moves to acquire a superstar under center, Garoppolo is a logical Plan B,” Barnwell writes. “We know that he has more upside than it might seem — the 49ers did make it to a Super Bowl with him, after all — and he wouldn’t preclude them from going after a quarterback in the 2023 draft. This would be a third-round pick in 2023 that could rise as high as the first round if Garoppolo plays 16 games and Carolina makes the playoffs.”

We’re still waiting, now at the end of year No. 5 as a starter, on that upside from Garoppolo—whose play hasn’t exactly been inspiring. Speaking of uninspiring, such a move would make Sam Darnold dispensable and lead to—as Barnwell further suggests—a trade to the New Orleans Saints for Carolina’s failed project.

The second scenario that involves the Panthers has Green Bay Packers backup Jordan Love packing his bags for Charlotte. This proposed deal would send the 2020 first-round pick over for the same price they got Darnold for—second and fourth-round selections.

“While Carolina has attempted to trade for star quarterbacks over the past two offseasons, this scenario would leave the market with none available,” he writes, leaving Aaron Rodgers with the Packers for the future. “The Panthers might not want to use another midround pick on a quarterback who isn’t a sure thing, but facing the horror of going into 2022 with Sam Darnold as their top option, Love would be a low-cost, high-upside alternative. They reportedly took a close look at Love before the 2020 draft.”

We got our first real look at Love this season in a spot-start for Rodgers. The 23-year-old, in his first career start, completed 19 of his 34 throws for 190 yards, a touchdown and an interception against the Kansas City Chiefs back in Week 9.

So, are you feeling the Love or would you rather shimmy with Jimmy? (We’ll see ourselves out now.)

Stop trading for lousy to middling QBs. Wait until they are released and take a swing at one of them. Build the line first and take a chance on a free agent journeyman QB until we get moving. Or heck, just keep Cam and Darnold on staff and get them some protection. 

Of course, if Rhule stays, does it even matter? Between him and Fit, it's lose today, mortgage tomorrow and lose tomorrow, too.

Big no on Jimmy G but Love you could talk me into. But ultimately, we just don't have the draft capital to spare with all the holes on the Oline and us fans are done with "stop gap" QB's. Just roll with Cam and Darnold and build the Oline then target QB in 2023 when a lot of better options are available, and Sam's contract is off our books.

      Same. I would prefer a MNF game earlier in the season. As if more likely has some significance in case things go south this season. If we perform well enough we could even get another game forced to a Sunday night spot later in the season.

      Wanted to jump into this thread. Although I do not post anymore I do look in as there are a few old friends around. Loved hearing some of the names you mentioned.  Another  oldie is NanceUSMC.  He is the one who got me here from the old Observer forum.  Good guy and smart football guy. I have learned a lot from a lot of good Huddlers over the years, Over time. we have sadly lost a few who left this earth too soon.  Anyone who know of someone, it would be nice to try to make a list.  One of the more recent, CosmoGirl,  was someone that kind of hit hard.  Life sucks sometimes. Some of the best times were when we had our own tailgate and could meet up in person.  I think it made us better. Several dedicated volunteers, lead by LiverMush, started setting things up in the wee hours of each gameday morning.  Don't know all those regulars but I remember JakeFlake was one.  For you newbies...each game,  a Huddler (or a group) sponsored the food for each tailgate.  Eating was free but a donation was asked for.  At the end of the year those donations were used to buy bicycles for Toys for Tots.  Over the years Huddlers bought a lot of new bikes for kids for Christmas.  (I am guessing a couple of hundred each year.)  We had a good time getting together, got to make friends in person, and then got to feel like you were doing something good. It was truly a community. I got to meet Dan Morgan at one of our tailgates...he brought pizza from his restaurant.  How many of you remember that?  Glad the restaurant did not make it....lol. Not only have people changed, and come and gone.....but the entire nature and purpose has changed. Nothing lasts forever and we move on but we still like to think about good times. Same reason we take pictures. Want to ask a question I have not seen anyone else mention......who remembers    "The Couch" ?  We have argued, laughed, lived the ups and downs of football and dealt with a little real life along the way.  A thanks to  the Mods who keep this going.  I am sure they sacrifice a lot of their time out of love for the forum and the Panthers. Take care my friends and be well.  I will close with my new favorite quote which I think is greatly needed in these difficult times.

      My top-5 JAGS: 1. Tommy Tremble: May not ever be top-tier, but has been solid and you never doubt the effort. 2. Cade Mays: Not bad for a 6th rounder. Hated to see him go. 3. Brady Christensen: One of the most versatile backup OLs in the NFL. Hopefully we re-sign him. 4. Trevis Gipson: Quietly was really solid depth last season. Glad we brought him back. 5. Brycen Tremayne: Has been solid depth at WR, flashing at times last year.
