Why hasn’t David Tepper

Probably waiting to carefully craft another fluff sit-down with Voth that'll go out in a week or so that makes all of us angry and accomplishes nothing but another year of pure poo.

Before carefully crafting another fluff sit-down with Voth next year about a new coaching search and lessons he learned and how he's NOW committed to winning.

Spoken out on Rhule and said something like “we believe in and are committed to giving Matt Rhule another year” blah blah

is he that embarrassed?

I would assume the Person article was largely correct.  Generally when a legit reporter has 20 sources they nail the general gist of it.  Get some little stuff wrong or partial stuff.     But his story had Tepper’s feelings.

then the people who he wrote it about will think disproving one thing that might not of  been 100% correct somehow makes the overall narrative painted false.  Which it doesn’t.   See it it sports, politics, big business, etc.

But I think Person largely nailed it

he doesnt have to.  how often do you see owners speak to the media about anything.  his focus is on the big picture, not day to day.  we dont know what his big picture is.

When a coach finishes the season in the manner rhule did and 95% of the fanbase wants him canned…usually an owner comes out and gives direction to inspire confidence.

tepper hasn’t

He may be waiting to see who Rhule comes back with as OC, OL coach, DL coach and STC. Those candidates will show an awful lot about the direction Rhule will and is willing to take. It also will show how much draw power Rhule's system has for coaching personnel. How many  actual coaches will line up for a job here when they could be tied to a coach with a two season losing record and only a potential third season of employment (if things don't improve rapidly).

Can Rhule actually dig his way out of the hole he is in? That may well be what David Tepper is assessing.

In the meantime, a bunch of really bad teams, with tendencies to pick really bad coaches, will be flooding into the marketplace. Most of them will choose poorly. One or two might hit on something good. Knowing that rushing to judgement last time probably got him less than he wanted might make dragging his feet a bit more palatable.

Until Tepper comes out and says out loud, "Matt's our man for 2022" nothing is written in stone.

And I think that bewildered, sleep-deprived look Rhule had at the press conference might just reflect that situation. As to Fitt, I think he must have been assured he'd be here for this year.

    • I mean, I think you're being a little hyperbolic with the last statement, but point taken.
    • Pass rush was the biggest issue in tonight’s game, and we were tied for 28th in sacks this season. That is a major area of need that has to get addressed this offseason. I just don’t see a path where there’s a game changing QB you can bring in with where we are drafting and quality of veterans that will be available. We certainly can do better than Dalton as a backup, and should ideally have a developmental guy  (perhaps a day 3 pick this year). We have bryce for one more year on a reasonable contract and then I think 2027 is the year that you reset that position (unless he massively improves).
    • Agreed, honestly basically bringing this group back as a healthy unit would be alright.  Brady Christensen should be resigned to a very reasonable deal with him recovering from the Achilles.  Atleast we're alright at 4 of our 5 spots with Lewis, Mays, Hunt, and Moton, Nijman was decent.  While if we can snag a deal on someone, take a stab, however our resources need to go to Linebacker, Pass Rush and a real option outside Tmac (coker is amazing, but if we can get someone who isnt braindead opposite Tmac, we can fully unleash Coker AND Tmacs full potential, cant move him into the slot if racoon boy is out there licking doorknobs).
