Agree. Rhule is only on year two though. His two year record is better than that of a guy who will be coaching in the Super Bowl on 13 Feb, yet everyone here wants to act like Rhule has no chance at turning the ship around.

It’s the direction of the team. After year 2 Taylor already had a bright young QB went from 2 to 4 wins (still shitty, but an improvement with his QB going on IR), and was in position to snag an elite weapon (Chase) or elite blocker (Sewell) to grow with Burrow. Rhule has an expensive, terrible QB in Darnold, only 1/5 good OL, and overpriced weapon in Robbie and an injury prone, expensive RB with only one pick in the first 3 rounds. His team went from 5-11 to 5-12 after starting 3-0. People were picking the Bengals to make some noise this year, while we are being picked at having a chance at the number one pick next year.

Nice gif. Bengals have been adding to the roster over the past 6 years and hired a coach who was Vegas #1 to fired. I don't like Rhule but again keep moving the goal post that this was a "2 year" rebuild.

That makes no sense. every team "adds to the roster" each and every year. When the packers blow it up this offseason are you gonna say "TECHNICALLY they aren't rebuilding because they have been adding players to their roster since 1921"?

If a team sucks (like the Bengals did) and gets a new coaching staff (like the Bengals did), its a rebuild. You're the only one who thinks otherwise because it fits your argument on a dead football forum

The Bengals avoided QB limbo and took the top QB in the draft. And WOOOOW look they're good now. Amazing. Meanwhile Rhule thinks Sam is going to become a star in his 5th season. We're trash.

It didn't hurt that Burrow went down in 2020 and they were able to draft his former team Chase.  This will be a duo that the AFC will have to defend for the next decade.

We'll probably never be bad enough for the  1st, 2nd or 3rd pick.  We'll always figure out a way to win a game or two.   We are going to have to have great scouts and find that QB like Mahomes that falls to middle of the 1st round.

If we could find a QB like Jake again.  I would be happy.  While Jake was never HOF material, he had leadership and a winner's mentality.  His heart was 10x more than his talent and I loved that fire he brought to our team.  Those Jake years and the early Cam years have been my favorite.

I’ll never forget him going on a bootleg to get a first down and beat Washington and taking 15 minutes to run 10 yards, getting his helmet knocked side ways and talking junk through the ear hole.

I want to say it was the Cardinals but memory fades with so many years under my belt. 😆

But I remember him taking a cheap shot and he got up furious and we won that game.

Does Rhule have his offensive and defensive core/leaders in place to build around?

No.

Burrow, Boyd, Bell, Bates, Hubbard, Mixon, Chase, Williams, and Hendrickson are the foundation of that team.

Mixon, Boyd, Bates, and Hubbard were in place year 1. Added Williams year 1. Added Burrow and Bell in year 2. Added Chase and Hendrickson in year 3.

All of them have a high level of leadership ability that was apparent in college. The former leaders were wedged into those roles and played the hero too much. They were removed.

Rhule had Thompson, Burns, McCaffrey when he arrived year 1. He added Chinn and Bridgewater year 1. Rhule dumped Bridgewater when Bridgewater stood up for his teams preparation.  Bridgewater out. He added Darnold in year 2. Burns is a hero and not a leader. Darnold was also forced into a leader role. On top of that, the foundation and leadership was so thin Rhule had Jackson, Paradis, and Moton wedged into leadership roles. Darnold, Burns, Jackson, Paradis, and Moton were not top leaders in college. They followed leaders or their coaches in the NFL. Rhule has assembled a core of soldiers and yes men. The need for leadership in this organization was never more apparent than Cam Newton in his return. The team needed that, and Rhule made sure to crush it when he was outshined by a player.

So, going into year 3 Rhule has Thompson, Chinn, and McCaffrey as the only championship level leadership. That is too thin to build a playoff team on. You think Rhule can park his ego and find 6 NFL leaders this offseason that everyone will mesh with and give the Panthers a fighting chance at the playoffs? It's difficult enough to find 2 leaders to add to the puzzle in one season once the foundation and culture has been set.

Can't go any further with a team no matter how many hero players you have if the foundation and culture has not been set. Or worse, has been set, fractured, and needs to be reset.

One of those coaches you mentioned can identify talent at the QB position and the other traded for Sam Darnold and just signed PJ Walker to another deal. My goodness some of ya'll are delusional. I think that's enough for one night lmao.

You hyping up this dude’s eye for QB talent because he drafted Joe Burrow at #1 overall?? 😂😂

All you build-through-draft-people better hope that the Rams lose, and all you O-line-before-everything people better hope that Cincy loses, and all the Watson haters better hope he's adjudicated guilty, because ironically, I think that all of the events of the weekend mean that we're going all-in on Watson, unless he's behind bars.

The common denominator is a franchise QB, and there will be one available that you don't have to guess about or throw darts at a board hoping that you hit the bullseye.
