Watson be like, "Hey Baker.  Get your sh!t out of my stadium.

Offer the Browns a second rounder in 2023 for Baker.

Second? Nah a 5th now. Id say lower but i actually want him here and thats the offer to outbid the rest lol.

Theyve lost any and all leverage. Fully guaranteed 18 mil just like Darnold.

Yeah I think you cap it at either this year 3rd or next year second. Browns have no leverage rn

Don't know what to tell you, the Panthers had this conversation with Watson's agents last night and balked. If they hadn't he'd be a Panther today because the Falcons and Saints had both already declined that's why it was dragging out so long.

It was only to drive up his price. Just accept it. Watson was never going to sign here even if he didn't have any other options.  Hes even gone back to the Browns for goodness sake. Do you need more evidence?

well we some what  turned him down  . At the end we said NO .

As negotiations for the Deshaun Watson sweepstakes came to the bitter end, his team called the Panthers with a request on Thursday. They asked Carolina if it could guarantee him money on the third and fourth year on his four-year, $156 million deal as part of what would’ve been a blockbuster trade agreement. Those years are not guaranteed as it’s structured now, and the team could move on without much penalty. Representatives for the Panthers declined the unprecedented proposal. Later that night, around 9:10 p.m., they called back. Watson informed the team that he would not waive his no-trade clause for them.

They must have Recalled  the Browns and they went 100% all in I guess ....

If that's true, then Tepper wasn't an idiot after all, because that deal is fuggin ridiculous

Even that may be too high. We're looking at one year rental before you have to tag and sign him long term coming off shoulder surgery.

Next years 3 us the highest id go and that is probably good enough.

Sam and Baker in camp on 1 year deals. If they fail, they're both gone with Rhule.

With the moves made today and still keeping pick number 6 in the mix...I think we're a playoff team tbh.

but not really? if the panthers thought this then they would’ve helped him drive up his price for what everyone believed was a divisional foe

what you’re saying is illogical

230 Million fully guaranteed and the guy might be an actual criminal

Glad we lost out on this one

My god....MY GODS....... I guess the report about the panthers NOT allowing his 3rd and 4th years to be fully guaranteed was in fact a fact....my god... The kicker in all new information is it did come down to money and the richest NFL owner passed....... craziest NFL off-season evar.

I never saw your personal Watson take, honestly where were you? Would you have bought a watson jersey or let your daughter wear one? Or turner your back forever on being a panther fan?

    • This 1000%.  Hey who wants to sign with the guy that couldn't even get his client the guaranteed contract of a 3rd round pick?  Lmao
    • I don't think it's any weird or unique clause, it's the offset language, same thing so many contract disputes are over. It just means that including it, if a player is cut and then signed by another team, the original team would be able to subtract how much they're getting paid by the new team from what they still owe him on their guaranteed money. For example, it's why Russell Wilson signed for the minimum last year with the Steelers as that was included in his Denver contract.  So if he signed with the Steelers for $1 million, he'd get $1 million less from the Broncos, if it was $2 million, he'd get $2 million less, basically he couldn't make any more money than he was already going to make, so you sign for the minimum to not take unnecessary cap room from your new team while giving extra cap room to your old one. The problem with trying to include it in rookie deals is that a team trying to include it, it says they think they don't really believe the player will make it 4 years with the team before they cut them.  And this usually comes up with one or two rookies in most seasons, the difference is it's usually handled much more quietly and not as public and ugly as this one. The other difference is that it's happening with the Bengals, which I believe I saw are one of the few (or only?) team that doesn't have protections for rookies in rookie and mini camps to be able to participate even if they haven't signed their contract yet.  The other teams have injury protections that allow them to still play, but the Bengals do not, which is also why this one is so public and ugly, as most the time this happens, the rookie is still participating in the rookie and subsequent mini camps, giving them more time to get the contract done before training camp when they'd then hold out.
