It’s considered bad because there us no true number one and a large drop off after 5/6. Once you get past Howell/Ridder there isn’t much NFL caliber guys period. I just don’t think this really affects us where we are picking. It’s a bad year to be picking number 1 or if you are wanting to gamble on a later option QB. Pickett, Willis, and Corral are considered first round talent and Howell/Ridder I’ve seen on the cusp of 1st/2nd.

IMO, Pickett/Corrall are late 1sts, Willis is a 2nd and the others are 3rd or lower.

That's why you pass this year and either pick the best LT on the board or trade down. Snatch a FA QB or a QB for a lower pick trade for a 4th or 5th in next year's draft (or this year if they can get the extra later round picks). Smartest move they can make this year. Unless they want to roll with Darnold or Walker and rinse and repeat.

Simm's opinion(I know he has his own thread) was that Pickett and Corrall were the only 2 that might be worth a first rd pick. He didn't ACTUALLY say this, he just said that the other 3 were not. Also, NONE were top 10 picks.

I admit that I don't know poo about this year's QB class having only seen Howell play in an actual game instead of highlight film.

Sign Brown. Trade back. Acquire a mid round 1st, 3rd and a 2023 1st. Draft a QB somewhere (maybe Howell). Roll with two 1st round picks and a full draft in 2023. If the QB dice roll doesn’t work this year we probably have a top overall 2023 pick and another 1st. Take Stroud…..keep moving.

Unless we happen to grab a vet QB prior to the draft this is the best option. Get a LT in Brown, grab a QB mid round 1 & draft BPA round 3. You could still possibly get Pickett, Corral, Howell or Willis.

    • I wonder if they'd consider trading Rasheed Walker to a team that needs tackle help but missed out in the draft?
    • LOL. This is such a Panthers fan take.  Anyone who falls to us must suck because some other team didn't take them before.  We got lucky with Lemon, Thieneman, and Freeling all falling to us (honestly any of the three is a A+) but the WR and S positions are much deeper than the LT position in this draft.  We got the LT w/ the most upside at 19.  Mauigoa played RT in college and some think he is a guard in the nfl.  Spano played RT in college and some think he is a guard in the NFL due to short arms.  Blake Miller played RT in college and is not as good as Freeling.  Proctor is a true LT but his ability to handle quick edge's worries me (see Icky).  Freeling is a true LT and a gifted pass protector.  Many think he has a very high ceiling and will benefit from not having to start right away.  This is how you build a franchise.
    • After watching Cam get killed for years behind a bad Oline and having to watch the 2021 and 2023 Olines I will never complain about this team putting resources into that spot.  We got a true LT who could really push Rasheed Walker for the day 1 job. Go back and watch Iceky's draft profile from 2022 and all the talk was Ickey would be an all-pro guard in a zone blocking scheme, but he could play LT in a gap power run scheme. That's why Ickey looked really good when Wilks took over and we just started running gap run plays and just mauled people up front but under Canales we've been more of a zone running team. Ickey can survive at LT with his pass blocking but his true strength will always be his ability to just move guys in the run game and that's a skill set that's better used at guard.  Take another OT later on day 3 to learn from Moton to take over RT in a couple of years and let Walker and Freeling battle it out for the day 1 LT job then next offseason trade one of Hunt of Lewis and let Ickey move inside to guard.
