Would Justin Fields have worn #1 if he was selected by Carolina?

Didn't someone else want number 1 and Tepper denied their request because that number is reserved for cam? Don't see why it wouldn't be any different for the rook even if he was a first round pick. Those who have yet to achieve have no right to take away from the accomplishments of those who have already walked the walk.

Retire #1, #89, #58, and #59 already

at that rate we won’t have enough numbers to field a team in the not so near future

no. Sam Mills is the only number that should be retired and wouldn’t you know it’s the only number that is. it should be kept sacred, not for just fan favorites

I like high standards, the panthers have yet to have a truly long term defining HOF franchise player to do this. none of those are it.

wasn't drafted because of a jersey number? stans defying the impossible and embarrassingly outdoing themselves yet again

Shouldn't give it to him, because he's as much to that number as 89 is to Smitty.

But Tepper and Rhule would have because it's not special to them as fans.

Didn’t tepper say at the ring of honor ceremony for Steve smith that he wasn’t going to let anyone where that jersey number for a long time?

I know for a 100% fact that Justin would’ve asked Cam for his permission. He’s always worn #1 and wanted to do so in the NFL too. He also looked up to Cam being from GA so he likely would’ve thought it would be a nice honor. I don’t know what Cam’s answer would’ve been.

    • In May of 2026, it looks like a challenging schedule...and it probably is.  I rarely listen to the "strength of schedule" conversations that light up social media this time of year. Each year teams improve and decline. I think there's chunks of the year we need to take care of business and the week 5 bye is not desired.  I do think if we don't hit the bye week at 3-1, it's going to be a major uphill battle given the schedule in front of us. This season falls on three people, regardless of schedule strength: Canales, Bryce, Evero.  Canales: Finally can truly coach all aspects of the team and not focus with gameday prep for OC duties anymore. He drives the bus and needs to get these guys in position to win each week. There's no way vets come in and put it on the line every week to watch our QB sh!t the bed (See: SF game last year). Bryce: Despite everyone's obsession with thinking Bryce is a guaranteed extension, I think this year will truly be his "prove it" year. If he comes out the way he has the past three years, I really don't see how vets and coaches can continue to put him under center long-term. He might play out that fifth year as the starter, but I think next offseason his long-term replacement is found. I also think there's no excuses with the weapons and commitment we've made on offense to insulate him with every possible weapon.  Evero: Best personnel he's had since he's been here...no excuses. Figure out how to blitz effectively. Figure out how to use CBs whose strengths are press/man. Figure out how to utilize a talented front-7 to get the hell of the field. Outside of FS and maybe....maybe ILB, there are few weaknesses on this unit.
    • Canales can never get his teams ready in the first week of the season so far. Hope that changes or Ben Johnson is going to take his azz to school.
