Why not bring in a Vet QB for 1 year...

Doesn't have to be a big name. Just a one year deal to tutor the rook and help out the QB room. Fitz would be a good choice. Old man in NFL years at 39, but he knows the robes and would be a good mentor to have around. We have the cap room for a one year deal.

Can't have Corral being left with only Darnold and Walker to get advice and coaching from. Walker will have to go and Fitz can still sling it if need be.

Fitz said he didn't want to add a vet. That makes little sense to me.

If you add Fitz, he is the best QB on the roster in terms of week 1.  And the entire team will know that.

Now you could start Corral over Fitz.  Because that would be a development angle.  But you couldn't start Sam. So that's a problem for the staff IMO.

There's such a limited crop, this can't really be a general question.

You have 2 realistic options (For the expected response: Cam is gone, get over him)

Nick Foles

Ryan Fitzpatrick

Both would get no more than $2 mil.  I don't see it hurting or really helping.  I would personally rather have one of those two in the room with Matt over Sam Darnold but won't care either way.  We just need to see if we found something or not with Matt and hopefully that can be done at some point this year like was done with Mills and Dak as two recent examples.

The Carolina Panthers added quarterback depth when they drafted former Ole Miss star Matt Corral in the third round, but that does not necessarily mean they are going to stop pursuing veteran options.

Albert Breer of The MMQB wrote in his weekly column on Monday that he expects the Panthers to “kick around the idea” of adding a veteran quarterback. They have already been linked to Baker Mayfield and Jimmy Garoppolo. Nick Foles, who was released by the Chicago Bears at his request last week, is another name to watch.

Some people were surprised when the Panthers did not use the No. 6 overall pick on a quarterback. In hindsight, that looks like the right move. They instead took Ickey Ekwonu, who was considered by many to be the best offensive lineman in the draft. Carolina was then able to land one of the top QB prospects in the third round.

A report after the first round claimed the Panthers were intensifying their pursuit of Mayfield. However, the fact that they got Corral should allow them to be more patient. They are unlikely to pay a steep price for any veteran QB whether it is Mayfield, Garoppolo, Foles or someone else.

The Panthers still have Sam Darnold, who is obviously not a long-term solution for them. The question is whether they consider any of the aforementioned veterans to be a significant upgrade.

Mayfield’s already limited trade market may have dried up over the weekend. If the Cleveland Browns are intent on trading him, they will likely have to get creative.

As long as it is nothing more than a glorified QB coach. We need at least 8 games of Matt Corral to get some sort of read on what to do with a (likely) top 10 pick in 2023.

No worries.  Rhule probably will give us 10 games of Sam.  5 of PJ.  2 of Corral.

Because with Sam we all know that Corral will get his shot and plenty of it. We already spent that money and picks on Sam, just play him for a few weeks and see if Corral is ready. If they both stink it up, pick in the top 5 and try again.

    • Not sure how much he was a long term piece of this team.   Sucks to not have him as part of the rotation.   Looks like it's Lee Hunter time.
    • This post was an error. Oops and sorry for the errors in the previous one. Too slow to edit.   We’ll see what they do.
    • I am not sure he will put the over the games but we’ll probably have them.   Two things I am thinking.  We have 4 preseason games.  All the coaches have enough service time to know the standards that are in place for decades. If I recall it was play your starters just a series to start woth and build it up until week theee where play a lot and you have week four to set hour roster. Evaluate before cuts.   Bevell will certainly have the whole thing down pat.   I’d they don’t do the fries and frie air will worry too. Because it is set up to do that.     I have said since they went t three preseason people have to figure a new way are still feeling it out and trying things.  We don’t have to this year.
