CJ Henderson

I know everyone is ecstatic about Horn coming back, as we should.

But I’m really interested in seeing how CJ Henderson does this year.

CJ was about just as hyped as Horn coming out being a top 10 pick.  Also oozing with ability and potential.  His biggest issue was questions about his heart for the game.

 

This article I found a really good read and has me excited to see what he does and the potential of him pairing with Horn.

He didn't show much last year, but it takes some players longer than others to adjust, and I am hoping CJ is one of those.

If CJ can just turn into an average NFL starter for us, that pick we sent over was as good as gold.  He doesn't need to be amazing, just good.

Yeah. anything better than average means we really did well in that trade.

Was a little disappointed he didn't look that good last year but hopefully he can get it together. He has a lot less pressure being a 3rd round pick here than the top 10 pick he was in Jacksonville.

If CJ steps up and plays to his draft potential, or even 75% of that, we will have one of the best starting trios of CBs in the entire NFL.  That will go a very long way to making our defense good.

It just sucks the lack of foresight our GM has had in these trades or pushback. Somehow we thought they were great and had to have them only to sign another CB in Gilmore, resign Donte and draft a QB/try to trade for multiple QBs. CJ looks to be another wasted pick given his limited opportunities regardless if he becomes decent. 

How do you figure?  How could they know at the time they made that trade what Donte might be thinking as far as his value?  If CJ turns into a starting CB, we can flip him for better than what we paid.

In a league that values passing so much, having three good CB's is never a problem.  Teams are playing nickel packages somewhere between 60 and 70 percent of the time.

CJ becoming a starter can only benefit us in every way.  It's a question of whether he does or not.

3 corners start in todays NFL. Nickel/Dime is basically a base defense now. 
 

3rd round pick for a guy with all pro traits is a good trade.

It's not often tha you and I disagree, but this one ... I disagree. In a league where in the near future teams will have 3 cbs making 10mil+ per year ... this was not a bad move. this is a passing league. We went out and got a top talent for a 3rd. There is no one that was in the 3rd round this year's draft that I feel would have been a better player than CJ. Obviously, this is perspective we wont know until a couple years down the road.  Of all of the moves this FO has made, this one is at the bottom of the list of something that Im worried about.

I expect CJ to be traded mid-season after Keith Taylor takes that 2nd/3rd CB spot

He's still in year 3 of his contract, I doubt even if he plays well next year they'll think he's worth the 5th year option for that high of a pick. He might pick things up and play well, just seems essentially like a 2 year rental. For reference Jags took LB Chad Muma with our 3rd round pick, and Nakobe Dean was also still available, those both seem like better long term investments for your "brand/process"

I agree that he probably doesn't love the game that much but some players have that desire to get PAID, this season for CJ will have a huge impact on how much his value in the NFL is worth.
