Baker Mayfield doesn't have a "top 64 arm"?

His arm isn't his issue, that sits between his ears.

There should be a fine for talking heads BSing about sports stuff that they obviously know nothing about. Like a bucket of slime they used to dump on kids back in the day. Maybe just go with an IDK and pass it over to someone else.

"I'd choose Darnold, he has been there longer and knows the offense" ... this is when I stopped listening.

It's really sad how MANY shows / media members have this take and push this narrative, it's usually where I tune out anything they have to say as well.

People act like we still have Joe Brady, or Matt Rhules roommate as the OC and the offense hasn't changed COMPLETELY. Now if someone had the take that Darnold has a ''headstart'' with the NEW OFFENSE under McAdoo I could at least respect that.

But acting like Darnold KNOWS the new offense in comparison to Mayfield is a lazy / uneducated take, and it sucks because no one in the media / ESPN / NFLN etc. even care enough to do that much work. It's just been broad sweeping ''GENERAL'' takes, and any casual fan would also become misinformed.

The other thing that is crazy and I've even seen this from Browns fans, they act like he didn't helpw turn that organization around on the field -- they were 1-31 before drafting baker. He went 29/30 in his starts. I'm not a Baker fan, or apologist but it's common sense to see he had a huge impact on that team.

People act like OBJ / Landry were some  kind of set the world on fire duo, OBJ was coming off an injury, and Landry is a volume receiver underneath primarily. Most people can't even name the other WR's they had (Perryman, Higgins, Peoples-Jones, and Callaway) none are marquee. OBJ / Landry are more names than anything to me, not saying they aren't good, but Moore at this point has proven to be better than OBJ, and I'd take Robbie over Landry when he's the 2019 / 2020 version (1900+ receiving those two years).

People also give the defense a ton of praise, but they were ranked off the top of my head in the 20s the year they went to the playoffs. Baker is a clear upgrade to Sam, that simple.

All NFL backups have a better arm?

This dude has got CTE or some poo.  This is maybe the most absurd take I have ever seen from a so-called "expert".  Like WTF?  I seem to recall Baker having like top 5 velocity on his passes coming out of the combine.  I think they test those kinda things now, and Mayfield was elite.

Coming out of college Mayfield was considered elite with the mental side of things.  Read the Sports Illustrated draft profile on him that was posted in a previous thread.  Lincoln Riley raved about his intelligence and his mental preparation.  They gave him some test called the "AIQ", which is pretty much a modern Wonderlic, and he scored in like the top 10% of all the people who have taken the test.  So, I don't think intelligence is the issue either.  When hes put it all together hes been a great QB.  2020 was a great year for him.  His rookie year was very very good.  Hes just gotta play consistent.

    • Any idea what happened to him at LSU? im reading that he was considered a 1st round pick in 2023, had an off 2024 season with only 4 sacks but was also on a horrible FSU team then went to LSU where he was supposed to be on an aggressive defense that should have given him a lot of sacks but he only ended up with one….   was he injured? Did the top SEC competition expose him? What happened? Cause this guy was considered a top prospect .
    • Sometimes its fun to read the threads/posts.  The panthers could literally hire a groundskeeper and we'd have a thread "improving the field for no other reason to prop up Bryce Young".  Apparently no move is ever done to actually make the team better.  All a conspiracy to just focus on Bryce Young. Or suddenly daydreaming and reminiscing about Sam Darnold when he was hated more than Bryce Young.  Its really fun to do a message board search about Darnold during that time period.   Or thinking there is just a tree that grows QB, and you can just easily go up and pluck one.
    • Yeah okay. We as an organization have been more patient with him than many. And there has been a small parade of guys drafted since he was, also to bad teams, that have passed him. Some have lapped him. As a fan I am out of patience but he gets this year it is out of my hands always has been. I just hope the bar is higher than it has been for him.    FWIW, XL dropped two passes last year. He did do some other bad stuff, just saying.
