Absolutely disagree that we don't have a quality roster - and trading away McCaffrey for pennies on the dollar doesn't make it any stronger either.

poo article.

For sure. This is a very talented roster. You remove Rhule and we have a top 2 pick, what coach wouldn’t want to walk into that situation.

Rhule likely isn’t forfeiting that much money if he lands a good power 5 gig. Plus there is happiness and his entire future (more money) at play in the long run.

Brian Kelly LMAO makes more money than Rhule.  Miami, Michigan State, etc all pay their coaches more.  With ballooning salaries Rhule has decent odds if someone wants him of getting really good money and no longer being a miserable laughing stock.

Exactly.  A lot of people don't understand that unless they did something incredibly unusual for the NFL, and stupid, Rhule doesn't get the money from his Carolina contract AND the money from his next gig.  He likely gets at least the money he is guaranteed from the Panthers contract (which will essentially be split between the Panthers and whoever hires him), and if he makes more from his new job, Tepper is probably off the hook.

If he quits for a job of equal or more money, he has lost zero.  In fact, the dollars and sense probably work out the exact same as if he is canned.  If he quits for, say, $7M a year he loses $1.5M, but that may be worth it to him in the long run.  The guy has already made roughly $25M here (counting this season).  He's 47, and apparently enjoys coaching (although maybe not right now, and maybe not in the NFL at all).  He's got 20 years ahead of him to continue to talk to 18-21 years olds about "the Process" and they will mostly believe him.  If he tries to play out the Panther string, there is no guarantee that his name will be viewed as a hot commodity at the major NCAA programs in 4 years.

While Tepper still owes him 4+ years of salary, he also owns his rights for those 4 years.

edit: he isn’t even pretending here, the entire article is “here’s what other people think of the panthers.”

The time to trade CMC is next year before the deadline if we have a poor record. He'll still have value and the dead money will not be crushing at that point. Next year is toast if we trade CMC now. Maybe they are willing to throw in the towel on next year already, but our defense is ready if we get the right QB/OC.

In the hypothetical scenario where we land a top 3 QB in the draft and they are actually what we hope, I would hate to be down our best offensive weapon + the player(s) $18+ million would bring next year.

We're 11-25 since signing him to that foolish contract. RB's are a dime a dozen draft one in the mid rounds and keep building this oline for our future quarterback.

So we could get another RB like Chuba?

Hard pass. I'd move CMC to WR and let him take on the Debo (at which his contract becomes a bargain comparatively) before I'd ever ship him out for mid round picks AND eat the contract.

the league is slam full of productive runners that aren't Chuba though.

CMC isn't Deboo.  2 totally different players.  They just happen to both be diverse.

Besides I've heard CMC doesn't want to play the slot. He only wants to be a RB. He will occasionally play slot but that's not what wants.

A lot is going to depend on Fitts (who apparently is not in hot water with Tepper, per reports) and the new coaching staff (assuming there is a new coaching staff).

IF CMC stays healthy, the new staff may want him because nobody else is proving to be a catalyst on offense.  Let's face it, even though we put the blame on QBs and the play calling, if you are coming in as a new coach, you are looking at our receives and perhaps thinking a couple are good to decent, but there are a lot of unknowns.  That even includes DJ, just because of results.

But, this is not a plum job to a prospective HC.  If the guy is a defensive coach, there are more people they could find intriguing than on offense.

The Process has screwed this team.  Rhule is apparently all about developing a culture, but in the NFL that comes with success and is a product of it.  Trying to develop a winning culture without the winning just doesn't work in the pros.  The end result is the players may love you, but they won't even help you carry your bags or pack your stuff when you are sent out of town.

If we knew for sure that we were going to get a good coach to replace Rhule; and also knew that the FO could get good compensation and turn those picks into solid starter for a new regime, then I could support moving Christian.

But, I have no faith in Tepper and/or Scott F. to pick a successful next coach, especially if they opt for another "defensive minded coach".

I also have no faith in the FO to pick the right players if we got a good haul from moving CMAC. Our draft classes haven't been stellar the past 3 years. We've passed on a lot of talent during our efforts to manipulate the draft board and accumulate picks.

I still think we can win with the talent we have if we could get a QB, one or two more draft picks to fill some holes, and someone who knew how to put the guys already on the roster in the best position/role to optimize their natural abilities.

I think the coach/GM combo could add solid starters with our 1,2,and 3 picks in next years draft to what we have and challenge for a division title since this is probably Brady's last year in Tampa.

Just now, Mr. Scot said:

Phrase that sticks out to me:

"That job, working for that owner, is a rough sell right now."

Sounds like Tepper is developing a reputation.

I'd add that "playing chicken" with Rhule is an ego-driven, dumbass move.

I agree on both points.

While I don't see any improvement by sending Rhule out the door now, this year is probably a major loss, regardless. I don't see anybody on the current staff changing that, including Rhule.

Unless they did something incredibly stupid with Rhule's contract, the end result in terms of dollars and sense is going to wind up being background noise.  Especially with some big-time NCAA jobs opening up as this plays out.

In terms of Tepper, he just needs to stay out of sight or get some advice of how to handle this mess from someone with bonafide NFL credentials.  Right now, this whole mess looks like amateur hour at almost every level.

    • I had started typing my post hours ago and didn’t finish it and just came back to finish it, posted it, then saw yours and saw we were pretty much saying the same thing - even the games that stick out to us most.  I don’t think a lot of people remember that SF playoff game, but I felt like I had just got mugged in broad daylight.  I remember them calling Mitchell for unnecessary roughness, and then I remember watching Boldin take a super late cheap shot, dead in front of the ref and then showing him watching the whole thing in replay…  the refs let them have a fuging field day and didn’t do jack poo, but if we so much as breathed the wrong way it was fuging 15 yards.  Each team playing under two completely different sets of rules.  poo hurt.  I was enraged.  I’ve never went back to watch either that game or SB50 and never will.  fuging robbery.
    • I’ve said it a million times since, but it’s impossible to keep them from affecting the game.  In SB50, they literally took the game from us, and they did it early.  Cotchery’s no-catch?  The miraculous amount of times we converted for a first down only to have it suddenly called back make it a 3rd down and 15+ against the best defense in the league that specialized in rushing the passer and man coverage on the back end?  And you do that enough times, you kill the morale and confidence of the team you’re doing it against.  It’s telling the one team “you can do whatever with impunity” and the other “you can’t do whatever they’re allowed to do.”  It changes the aggression level.  It essentially neuters one team and allows the other to do whatever the fug they want.  Imagine you call the police for help and they get there and tell you to sit still while the other party beats the poo out of you and you can’t defend yourself.  That’s what the officials do.  There is no way to avoid them affecting the game.  And more often than not, it’s the most subjective calls they use to do so.  Even in SB50…  you saw the Broncos commit more egregious penalties than anything we did, and barely any of it was called.  Their OL was holding all fuging game and the refs did nothing.  We already had our work cut out for us against two future HOF edge rushers and the refs played to their advantage with that.  From what I remember, both Oher and Remmers were called for holding at various times and their hands were in the INSIDE of the defender.  It was garbage, but all by design. Also, if there is any video of it anywhere, go look at what the refs did against us back in 2013 against SF.  The fix was in there too.  They stepped in early and often and ensured we knew we were not allowed to play with the same aggression or intensity SF was.  It was disgusting as well. at this point, I hope Vince McMahon, errr, I mean Goodell just finally scripts us to win it, because this poo is not won via competition or off merit.
    • You can go back to the New York Knicks somehow getting Patrick Ewing.  I saw a story where they place the New York Knick card in the freezer right before the drawing.  It was simple.  Show everyone the cards are undetectable to the human eye.  All they had to do was grab the coldest card. IMO ever since Goodell took over the NFL it has been fishy.  Patriots winning the SB after 9/11, New Orleans after Katrina and Peyton Manning's going away gift against us. The terrible calls during that game were blatantly one sided.  New England should have been stripped of their first 3 SB when they were caught spying on the other team in their SB wins.  I think the evidence against the Patriots was so damning Goodell felt it could ruin football and they brushed it under the table.   In the 2004 SB, How did we go from practically no yards in the first Quarter to setting a record in the 3rd Qtr.  Dan Henning changes the game plan.  IMO probably the greatest half time adjustment of all time.
