My only concern with keeping Wilks as HC…

It seems Steve Wilks has all the qualities of an at least competent NFL HC. His influence in the way the team has played since Rhule’s firing speaks for itself. That said, speculation is Tepper wants an offensive minded head coach, something the Panthers have never had. I tend to agree this is the right approach, as today’s NFL is geared towards scoring.

My main concern with keeping a defensive head coach is even if he’s highly successful, a carousel at the offensive coordinator job will be inevitable, and the offense will have to undergo major changes as OC’s come and go.

Is this a dumb way to look at it?

Wilks is just a variant of Rivera or Fox.

I continue to prefer we go with an offensive minded HC.  That’s just the way the league has moved.

This 💯defensive-minded coaches tend to lean more toward a conservative approach to offense. I think most Panthers’ fans are ready for a change.

Defensive coaches do succeed in the NFL

no different than offensive HCs that hire competent DCs

McDermott is a defensive example and Shanhan an offensive example

I cannot judge Wilkes on being conservative with this team given the poo show at QB and OC, none of his making

I like Wilks a lot....as a Defensive Coordinator.

I think his ceiling is there.  He just is too conservative to be the Head Coach.  Win or lose I want a HC that will play to win and not let their foot off the gas.

I know we have to find a QB and some other pieces, but please for the love of little baby Jesus, find a head coach who will get a lead and then play prevent defense and only run when on offense.

He does not have the talent here to do that.

I agree for the most part.

I did look back at his year in Arizona and he did have that tendency, although again he didn't have the talent there as well.

Maybe Wilks would have a different view if he trusted his QB and his coordinators.

Wilks won’t be the coach next season.  I have a bridge to sell for anyone that thinks otherwise

The best gift he could give is losing out now.  And yes that isn’t fair and no he did not get a fair shot at all.  Keep him as executive assistant to the new coach cuz I love Wilks toughness
