Marc Ryan: Wilks Unlikely To Be Next HC. Tepper has Affinity for Demeco Ryans.

I think the rationale behind opposing a DC head coach is associating them with a conservative offense coupled with an over-reliance on a strong defense (i.e. a DC’s bread and butter). Wilks seems to fit that mold based on what we’ve seen…if Ryan can buck that stereotype and hire an innovative OC to hand the offensive reins to, then I’d be gain.

Then again, this is the DC that got diced up by Jarrett Stidham 😭

We playing the name who wasn’t successful game because that list is longer..

it’s about the make up of the team.. And this team needs experienced coaching now not a guy trying to figure it out..

Who is your list of available coaches with previous HC experience? Sean Peyton and Jim Harbaugh will want full roster control and we would have to trade for Peyton. Frank Reich would be one, but who else are you thinking of?

You named my main 2 Harbaugh and Reich.. If not getting them I’d stick with Wilkes.

As far as what Wilkes would do about his staff, and what his ideal team and its style of play looks like, we really don’t know. He has been cooking the meal with what was in the fridge, which is stocked with fresh produce that is not ripe yet, or is past the sell by date.

If Wilkes hadn’t happened I’d be all over Ryans, probably.
The youth, the experience, I really haven’t checked his resume past his playing days, but those would be obvious concerns to resolve.

I would look at the Jets under Saleh. Saleh came from that same SF DC position. He hired a Shanahan disciple to run the O (who, admittedly I had been high on earlier in the season). They drafted a rookie QB. But once Brece Hall and Vera-Tucker went down, they can't do anything on offense. They were just eliminated just like us.

They have a good D, but their O has struggled and the rookie is looking like a bust.

This.  Ryans may have his own style, and may be more aggressive, but by and large, DCs are generally the same in their approach to the game.

And again, the issue with hiring a DC and him getting a rockstar OC is if the OC is any good, he won't be here very long and you'll have to start all over again with your scheme and philosophy offensively, which is much harder to do than on the defensive side.  I'm just tired of it.  We need to dictate the game on the offensive side first.

And for those saying Ryans is different, everyone was salivating over Salah for years.  And I believe he is a great coach, but he is struggling with the same issues that every DC ruined HC had and does.  Their offense lacks direction and identity and he seems in over his head because they haven't figured that out - namely a QB and a quality OC.  He has the same connections Ryans would have.  And again, ever wonder why innovators of the defensive game like Buddy Ryan, Jim Johnson, and Dick LaBeau were never superstar HCs?  There are certain limitations inherent to the defensive background.

No thank you.

The NFL told the league years ago when they changed the rules for WRs to make it much harder on DBs this league was moving towards an offense oriented league. We need someone who's rolling with the league instead of trying to stop it. They're not making playing defense any easier. Just embrace it already.

    • I believe Lloyd will elevate not just the whole unit, but also whoever his running mate is. Wallace is still very young, I think he's only 23 with two years of exp now. Cherelus can handle starting, he's just fighting with staying healthy. Kuwatch I think is going to be a contender after a couple week of understanding the system.  I mean Lee will be against..... what nearly 10 NFL-level WRs, he's going to get work and its up to him if he can hang.  I think its fair to expect 12th +/- 3 or 4 spots.  You know this, it boils down to how healthy everyone stays.....cause if dbrown, horn, Lloyd, Michael Jackson, or tervon miss extended time.....no way 10th can be reached. IF all the names above remain haethly, I do think 10th should be the goal. They are a young unit and added talent to a 16th ranked unit. Its time to march forward!!
    • Varying degrees all around but it starts at the top. That is where the buck stops. It has been 8 years of stupid, long before Morgan came back. Or Tillis was hired. Made it to the top of stupid mountain in 2023. Stayed in stupid limbo for a while, now we are prepping to scale the next mountain. In this case, I like those guys’ roster building better than what we have had so I am okay with them as our current pawns in the game of Bryce.
    • Don't let me gas him up too much, but I hear this and that...... I seen a wide body man with a quick burst, that's able to shed blocks and if extends his long arms its over. He tore up the OL in the senior, you seen about 10 plays and the dog walking OLman. There's other plays of him doing the same, just have to deal with fetus talking over the plays. Plus there's this-  https://x.com/PFF_College/status/2018385471068332410?lang=en     I hope he's ready, cause Id like to see him starting and doing his thang with dbrown, nic, and Phillips.
