I’ve said it several times, people need to be careful what they wish for. These young coordinators aren’t ready to be HC and the learning curve is insane. He should stay in Philly in my opinion.

on the flip side of that is byron leftwich, who may never get another shot. you need to strike while you are hot.

Again, love Wilks as a man and a person from all that I know, and I do think he's an incredible leader of men and deserves to be a HC somewhere in the league...  but I do NOT want it to be here after what games like Tampa and LA Rams exposed.

If we went through this whole process and come back with Wilks as the hire, I just don't know if I can invest any more time or energy into this poo.  It is not going to end well and we're gonna a be spinning our wheels for another decade.  Why can't we ever just make the right decisions and stay on the path to success for a sustained period of time?

Wilks with an offensive staff that can develop a QB wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. Honestly I feel like hiring Sean Payton is the worst decision this franchise could make. The HC choices are better this go around than in 2020.

I agree, but I also think he should have to change his DC as well.

Can't imagine anyone would dislike inheriting Campen or Tabor, not sure what other possibilities there would be aside from maybe Tepper wanting to keep Wilks on staff. I like Josina but some tweets are a little broad and ambiguous

This feels like the Broncos wanting to keep Evro and Texans wanting to keep Pep

I will say this has been an incredibly quiet search by the Panthers. Only real "leak" was that Tepper/the team was excited by Ben Johnson and he may have been the frontrunner if he hadn't pulled out. Besides that, been crickets.

Leaking news like that is dangerous and should be prevented.  Coaches have egos.  Nobody wants to be the second choice, I would think.  That could be why others did not agree to be interviewed here.

They let it be known that they liked Johnson.  Bad idea

They let it be known that they were looking for an offensive-minded coach.  Bad idea, when you have interviewed defensive-minded coaches.

I can’t think of anything that would deflate this fanbase faster than going through this hiring cycle with an emphasis on progression and revitalization and a commitment to joining the current NFL only to end up with Steve Wilks back as head coach to lead the panthers to ~.500 over the next three seasons

i think I’d just be done. It wouldn’t even be a protest thing. I simply could not work up the enthusiasm to to watch this milquetoast    blandmobile chug ahead again with the same formula that has perpetually failed to yield them back to back winning seasons

I didn’t watch a down of panthers football between the ravens and final Saints game last season, it wasn’t intentional, I just had no desire to watch that ballclub. So the template is already there. Idk how many times this team try to do it the same way with the same insufficient results and still talk themselves into plodding ahead.

”but Wilks says he has a plan!”

Lol

A lot of people would feel the same way. Even the Wilks fans who think that real life is a Disney Channel movie where the team just needs to 'believe' and then they win the big game would bounce fast.

    • You’re playing madden we’re talking real football stuff…. He does have you seen his special on internet he def thinks he’s getting paid
    • Without the team having an identity kinda hard to predict what they value.  They either are really trying to build a balanced team, or preparing for another swing at qb if Bryce doesn’t pan out. Seems like we value the o line but the $ spent there has been underwhelming besides Lewis, you could say it’s because of injuries but still hasn’t been worth the investment. as already stated, the whole handling of Bryce young as a whole has been ass backwards, we spent the years we’re supposed to take advantage of having a qb with a lower cap hit, building the team up to be adequate. now It appears, key word appears, the saints have done it correctly, which is painful to even think about. Regardless, I hope the front office has paid attention to qb contracts recently, such as Tua, Kyler, Daniel jones(pre colts) and don’t settle for subpar qb play at franchise qb rates
    • This is the flaw in your logic.  Cutting 3 of our best players will somehow move us from whatever we are to "compete". Even the most Young super fans are not predicting a ceiling above top 10-12, and that will not nearly cut it.  Someone will need to break the log jam of QBs getting nothing or North of 50. Our qb is at best a middle ground, lets hope it will be us that also manage to pay the worth at about 100 over 3 years.  And before you jump me, yes that is only of he improves.
