Coaching Interviews: Round Two

Was excited for this coaching search but the fact it is now down to a guy who was just fired this year and a guy who probably won’t succeed because interim HC don’t really ever work out  and he failed massively at his last full time HC gig is just so anti-climatic.
I have said it once and I’ll say it again. Panthers love their retreads.

Let's be honest, Reich shoulda never been fired from the Colts. The GM and Irsay, sure they shoulda fired themselves instead. That front office is a laughing stock.

Arizona's front office from Wilks time was also a laughing stock as well and they did him dirty as is well known.

🤷‍♂️

Safe, boring and zero reasons to even think about a SB. The party they throw for making it into a WC game and getting destroyed will be epic tho.

Yeah this is where I’m at. I’m sure Reich will make us somewhat respectable again but I’ll be floored if he’s the one that brings a Super Bowl to us lmao

I think the defense falls apart and it just flips to simi-competent on the other side would be my guess. Looking at his connections I am left underwhelmed until I look at Wilks' and then I just need a drink.

If Tepper's final 2 are really Reich and Wilks then somebody needs to remove those brass balls from his desk.

What a cowardly coaching search.

Let’s be honest. Outside of Payton, all options were underwhelming.

Some young inexperienced OC’s were way overhyped.

Im just glad we’re not looking at Dan Quinn.

3 of the final 4 coaches were young inexperienced coordinators.  Thats the trend in the nfl.  Go back to past playoffs and look at the other coaches.

And all 3 of them have constant rumors about them considering retirement after almost every season.

It's also pretty rare for coaches to still be doing it into their 70's as well, not to mention those are 3 coaches who have all won SB's as HC's.

Your'e really trying to compare Reich to 3 sure fire HOFers?!?!?!

C'mon now

But you are applying your own rationale as some unstated fact, when it is totally veering from your original point--about some 10 year vision which leads to retirement.  I simply Googled the oldest coaches in the NFL to see if there is something to your supposition that you retire before age 70.  The three that popped up were all hall of famers.  I am not cherry picking Hall of Famers to compare to FR, as you seem to want to spin this.  Fact: The three oldest coaches in the NFL--at the age you seem to view as a horrible negative, are--today--some of the most successful coaches in the NFL--at their current age.  HOF is for the past--I was pointing out what they are doing now.  Frankly (no pun intended) I would rather have a coach approaching retirement with my team who has been in the game for a good while than some young prodigy cutting his teeth so that he can go to a larger market.  So no, I did not pick the list of HOF coaches--the oldest coaches simply fit that description.  And if they retired or contemplated retirement--I have no idea what you mean by that point.  As I pointed out, the average NFL coach who has been to a Super Bowl lasts 4 years.  So to worry about 10 is in itself illogical.

Outside of Moore, the young coordinators that were interviewed flunked or refused to have an experienced HC at one of the coordinator spots.

Hence the search went from young coaches to experienced ones only basically.

So that left Payton, Reich, Wilks and Caldwell.

Payton eliminates himself with a combination of control and mainly off field concerns.

Not sure what happened with Caldwell, I've not heard anything about his interview at all.

That leaves us with Wilks and Reich with Moore as the only young coordinator left.

Since the search turned from a young coach to experienced, it was inevitable that Reich and Wilks would be left since Payton wasn't an option.

    • I don't think so. I think once you're measuring electronically, the spot is where the sensor says it is. So if it says half yard short of the line to gain, that's the spot. Now how that works with scrums and the ball moving on two minute drills and poo is anybody's guess.
