Someone here suggested he might be interested in a Vet QB like Brissett or something.

That may depending on who's available that will be willing to compete for the starting spot. They will most certainly add another rookie to the room and Fitterer will not play that 2 vet competition bs again because Tepper will not allow it. This is about to get interesting.

I'll never understand the undue Wilks hate. It's more rooted in emotion than logic.

That said, Frank was my first choice with Wilks second.

I don't hate Wilks. I think he did an admirable job. I just don't think his philosophy can build a consistent winner in today's NFL. The most telling stat, IMO, is that he went 1-4 when the opposing team scored first (with the one win being the 10-7 snoozer in week 18 vs the Saints). Ground and pound is great when you take a 7-10 point lead, but when others teams can score first or quickly, you need to have a counterpunch, and I just don't think Steve's mentality on that side of the ball will bring that.

@kungfoodudeI'm sure you're as "whelmed" as I am with this hire.

I wanted Steichen.

But whatever.

At least it's not anyone like Matt Rhule.

Let's see what OC / DC he hires.

Yeah, I mean it's fine. Not the big exciting splash but we hired the first offensive background head coach in NFL history. That is finally a change.

Hopefully he puts together a very good staff. That should be the big benefit of him.

I don't think it's necessarily hate at all. A lot of people see him as another Fox and Rivera, both guys who were loved in the locker room and underwhelmed on the field. He beat teams with horrible run defenses and had no other game plan for those that had good ones. Personally, I don't consider winning the division with a losing record winning anything.

I feel very underwhelmed by this hire. Wilks would have probably felt the same.

Andy Reid, Bruce Arians, Pete Caroll times two, Bill Belichick, Gary Kubiak, Tony Dungy,Jon Gruden, and Dick Vermeil were all retreads who won the big game and that's just this century.  In fact i'd say it's more common than not that a coach who isn't coaching for the first team that hired him wins the superbowl.  I like Reich and hopefully we give him someone better than Darnold to work with

VERY interested to see how he plans to deploy the offense.  Is he going to craft it & play-call? Or is he going to find a younger guy to run with one built around his framework?  And who would that be.

His role in our offense & the OC hire becomes mission critical now.  Hopefully he has some good dudes in mind.
