Reich’s description of a QB: It’s basically Corral

First things first. I am for drafting a QB in the 1st or 2nd round. We need to get QB figured out.

Now; people will throw poo at me for this, but the type of quarterback play Reich talked about (movement, RPO “the way the game is going”, etc)…we have a perfect fit on the roster in Corral.

I know the “pReSeAsOn” argument, which has been argued to death, but he displayed everything Reich mentioned in the presser in spades on his college tape.

If they think they can teach Richardson to throw, I wouldn’t mind adding him, potentially without giving up next years 1st and every 2nd round pick for the near future.

But I’m confident Corral will be in the mix if what Reich described is what he indeed wants in the position.

Corral is under contract so he will certainly be here, but his greatest weakness was processing the field due to the simplicity of what he was asked to do at Ole Miss and I highly doubt an injury season has changed that.  He certainly has desirable traits and this is not to say he can't put it together as a pro but if I'm a betting man, Corral is going to be QB3 going into 2023.

I’d love for it to work out but all the positives he showed at ole miss didn’t seem to translate. He looked slow, inaccurate, and avg arm strength at best. Maybe a season of NFL weight training and coaching can get something out of him 🤷‍♂️

His issue is he ended one season hurt in college, folks questioned his durability and then he got hurt in his first real action in the pros and got out out for the whole season. Talent is great but if it’s not on the field it sucks. We’ve seen that with CMC and Horn. He needs to bulk up some for starters.

College tape is irrelevant.  Zak Wilson had great college tape.  Kyle Trask had great college tape.  Etc.

I'm sure Corral will get his chance, but I'll be shocked if he ends up starting next September.  I certainly wouldn't stake my season on Matt Corral as QB1 were I the head coach or GM.

I'll say this...  I am almost certain we are drafting a QB, but if there is anyone that can help Corral develop and become the guy against all odds (1st round QB competition, injury, old coach's draft pick) it's Reich.  Corral can possibly develop into a backup turned starter and that's something Reich is pretty familiar with.

We know next to nothing about Corral right now.  Yes, he looked awful last preseason, but caveat that with "under the stewardship of The Process."  That moron treated him as a red-shirt freshman......and he may not have been OOU.......and, if he had worked out we may have had to part company with PJ Walker, who is OOU.

Corral's chances of finding his footing in the NFL and becoming a viable starter are not great.  But, they are exponentially better under Reich than they were The Process.

None of that means we should not be drafting somebody early (and maybe often) and looking at a cheap journeyman to fill out the QB room.

    • You literally did it right there and didn't even remember it. Sorry long Friday.
    • TMac to finish up Feels good after pads came on. Physicality is a little different, playstyle is a little different. Refs let the players play, so he has to earn his stripes to get calls and just has to be better playing through contact. Focusing on staying confident and listening to coaches. Not much has changed for him, still trying to be his authentic self. Was asked about boxing practice he was seen doing. He's done that since he was a kid because his dad was a boxer and taught his siblings. Was the youngest and got beat up the most, but now he's the fourth of sixth children. Boxing helps with his cardio and being reactive with his hands to the ball + DB. Admits to struggling the first couple of days, hats off to the DB corps for making him better every single day but had his best day on Wednesday. Even the best get got. Just have to remain confident in preparation and abilities. Confidence will take you only so far, and that's where his resilience plays a factor. XL is authentic and great to have in the room. Can rely on him to be the same guy every day. They make each other better. Everybody feeds off of each other and when one person wins they all win. Happy to be a part of the receiver room. Was asked about how he was laughing harder than everybody else at XL getting his feet in the water off the back of the boat: "Man he needs to be stopped bro... He can't be serious but he was serious. It's all good." Playing against the increased amount of press he's facing in practice is helping him get more physical. His job is to catch the ball, so if it touches his hand he has to come down with it. Only catches with one hand if he needs to, but that gives the QB a bigger catch radius. Had a pregame routine where he did a 360 one-handed catch, but doesn't do it anymore. Working on being a pro: Getting into the facility early and getting treatment, eating better, etc. Just wants to win re: rookie goals. Anything he can do to help the team win. "I'm looking for to the season man and keep pounding."
    • DJ Wonnum up next Felt the defense came out ready to work at all levels and took over practice. New standard around here. Young guys have to know they're coming in to work. Last year was not the standard. Nic and Princely are fun. Different personalities but loves what they bring to the room. Sky is the limit for them. Nic sits next to Wonnum, Princeley sits next to Jones II. Allows them to be better mentors. Feels great and ready to go Incoom's athleticism allows him to bend and get low even to compensate for not being the biggest guy. Can set the edge. EDGE guys are helped when the ILBs can get home because it allows them to be a little more free while still in scheme. DB being back means his dominance is back. Can set the edge from the 3 or wherever he's at to make the runs bounce to the EDGE guys. Winning mentality and standard this year. Championship level from practice to how you live off of the field. Accept greatness and excellence with guys wanting to come to work every day. Not settling for anything less. Been in guys' shoes that are fighting for roster spots so he knows how to address them. Remembers not knowing what's next, especially as a rookie. Have a clear mind and ask the older guys a lot of questions. Has a good relationship already with Pat Jones II due to knowing each other and talking football all of the time. Can make hand gestures and know immediately what to adjust. Taking care of his body and excited to start the season. Getting it acclimated to football again by being able to tackle and bring players to the ground. Didn't know they were playing live tomorrow. Don't tell me it'll be "thud." Browns next week will allow them to hit somebody else and get a feel of what a different team is doing. Also allows the team to see where they're at on offense and defense. Ready to play football. Not worried about the QB matchup for Cleveland, going to play hard regardless of who is back there.
