Latter round QBs

McKee will go Day-2 along with Hooker. McKee doesn't excite me and even though Davis Mills is an easy comparison, it is a bit true.  He can move better than you think, but he doesn't have the arm you'd want with his size.  It's good but it should be a lot better.  And he just doesn't push downfield well.  Not a creator.

Re: Hooker -- I don't think he is getting the credit he deserves; he could be a good QB.  His Bama game was off the charts and he's got the skills.  Age and offense be damned.  That being said, those are big factors to consider.  His ability to adapt to NFL offenses will be huge.

Haener & Hall are the only other two worth a damn IMO.

Haener would've been a much higher pick if he wasn't a twig.  I love his game and leadership.  He's a baller.  Could have a Taylor Heinicke type trajectory.

I was originally high on Tune, Duggan, and some others, but I just don't see Sunday level play from them.

You can scratch Bagent, Cunningham, & Bonner, they are UDFA.

McKee is interesting and a huge question mark.  He is suppose to be one of the more accurate QBs with a decent arm who was highly recruited out of high school.  The issue is the supporting cast around him was so bad he wasn't able to develop properly.  Never really had time or players open.

People were on his “bandwagon” well well before then.

Its crazy how quickly we forget people were talking him up this time last year the same way we are talking about Drake and Caleb Today

I know there were a lot of folks high on Stroud before the Georgia game, but a lot more jumped on the bandwagon after it.

Duggan has a ton of heart, but I don't think he has an NFL arm/accuracy...

I can see your point but at the same time I dont. I watched TCU the whole year and Duggan really had great touch on his passes and great pocket awareness. The past couple games may have been big games for him that mentally he may not have been ready for. But I think when he settles in, he will be good starter.

I think Hooker could easily come in and look similar to Geno of this year. He's a bit like Teddy but with a better arm/not afraid to throw downfield and can actually run a little bit if he wants. He did have a lot of open vertical routes but wasn't Mahomes grilled about this same kinda thing? I hate that Hooker doesn't get the benefit of the doubt even though he went 31td's to 3 int's then 27td's to 2 ints this year, but Will Levis truthers are like he's great his O-line! His Toe! Wasn't his fault!

I think you have to go to the Bill Parcells QB thoughts.

https://www.49erswebzone.com/articles/165172-brock-purdy-parcells-rules/ (first hit in google!)

https://thedraftnetwork.com/2022-nfl-draft-qb-class-bill-parcells-rules/ (context on KP versus Golden Corral)

So there's that.  I think if you're drafting a late QB flyer - get them with those traits to have the best shot at hitting on the late round QB.

Funny enough, we might see more QBs plucked late hoping to hit on the Brock Purdy jackpot.  The reality is that Purdy played well in Shanahan's offense, which is one of the most QB friendly in the entire league.  QBs are so incredibly important.

You trying to get banned?  How could you post something that points to Corral being a good QB.  That's blasphemous to our Draft experts that insist these QBs are leaps and bounds better than Corral.

Come On Man.

In 70 years 4 qbs have gone in the top 10 twice.   Someone always drops

The dropper will be AR, in my opinion.  We are getting Levis or no QB, if you ask me.  Young/Stroud are probably going in top 3 to 4 picks, and I do not see Carolina moving up that far--if Stroud or young falls to #6, they will move up.  Just guessing.

I agree. He picked up Heupel's offense very quickly as a transfer and absolutely mastered it his second year. His long ball looks very accurate and he was very successful against great defenses. He also thinks he will be ready for fall camp (of course he would say that). I would be willing to bet he will be a better nfl qb than AR four years from now.

The Willis to number 2 hype never even started until he did his roll out long pass on his Proday.  This time last year, they were still saying early 2nd late 1st.

Stroud and Young have been hyped for a while.  And a lot of people were talking about tanking for these 2 the same way they are Drake and Caleb today.

What exactly do you think I was trying to say?

    • Excellent post. Before yesterday I hadn't posted in about 2 years. I just popped in every once in a while to get updates. A couple of guys around here are excellent at that and one is funny as heck. Then there's MHS831, when I do pop in I always check out your threads. I really appreciate your takes and how you explain them and also the effort you put into it. Plus, your a class act. Grade: A I also came here to mention the UDFA C I understand we signed. I've read that he was ranked in the 6th round for what that's worth. He had a solid career and has traits that are special. He needs to be developed but he has potential and his strength is run blocking and his athleticism fits what we want to do offensively I think.  I think he was a late draft target that they believed was safe so they drafted other players and picked him up after the draft instead. If so, that's smart and very disciplined.    Here's a report on his strengths: SCOUTING REPORT: STRENGTHS Raym is a work in progress with high-end physical traits. He’s extremely light on his feet for a 300-pounder, a natural knee bender who plays with balance and leverage. Solid positional run blocker who flashes the nasty demeanor and killer instinct scouts covet. Shows a good feel for combo blocks, and Raym displays good quickness and flexibility when moving to the second level, capable of sealing the back side on reach blocks He’s a coordinated athlete who can win at the point of attack in the run game, and he can also move to consistently land blocks at the second level. Has the strong leg drive to create movement at the line of scrimmage, consistently putting defenders on the ground. Finishes and doesn't quit; competitor with a positive attitude and leadership traits that coaches admire. He's a dawg. Badass. I think his skills fit what we want to do too. This kid has the potential to be a stud for us. It's true we didn't draft him but we still got him. So, if it's really a big deal, just imagine that we had an extra 6th and drafted this guy there. He was valued there so it's a good pick. In my mind, we got a good center this draft, even if we didn't draft him. We signed him just the same.
    • That blows my mind too.  You know your system and the skill sets you covet--you have hours of game tape, you interview, you measure, you test, you weigh, you time--and 25% is the bar?  Now, I know some teams only have 2-3 openings some years, but dang.
    • 25% of day 2/3 picks would be phenomenal.   NFL Draft Pick Bust Rate Remains Very High - Daily Norseman Assuming the 30% includes first round picks, and that a draft success means the play spends significant amounts of time playing for the team that drafted him, a 25% success rate for day 2/3 picks would be well above average.
