I think we're still a year away from being truly competitive.  I think it would be impatient to sell the farm for a qb this year.  I do think we should trade the picks and accrue even more assets for next year.  I want to win this year, but I don't see a consistent path with any of the veteran qbs available or a rookie QB that we would have to trade so much for.  If we time it for next year we can have a wealth of draft picks combined with the 2nd most cap space in the league.

This roster is too good we won't be in position next year for Maye or Williams either.

Even if we went that route we would still have to trade draft picks to get our QB.

We can't keep signing vet QB's and expecting different results. We are a middle of the pack team who has the potential to be better if we get our franchise QB.

I totally agree we will get exponentially better with a franchise qb.  I think it just depends on if your really sold on one of the prospects this year.  I like Stroud the most, but deep down I'm a little unsure about all of them this year, but if I had to gamble it would be on Stroud.  I just don't think we have the draft capital to get him without significantly hamstringing this franchise for years to come.  The only way it becomes worth it is if he became a flat out star.

If we were to keep Darnold (Bearded Darnold only), we would have the most flexibility.  Darnold won't inhibit our cap much.  Darnold has improved.  We won't have to pay Carr 30 million dollars a year.  We won't lose our future draft picks.

Two things can happen with Darnold.  Darnold improves because he is the starter going into mini and training camps.  Darnold will actually have one hell of a coaching staff around him for the first time.  He had Adam Gase and Matt Rhule...poor guy.   Then we win the NFC South with Darnold.

OR

We are back at number 9 next year, because Darnold truly sucks...but this time we are back at number 9 with amazing cap space and we will truly be just a qb away.

We are not just a qb away right now.  We need TE help.  We need another starting linebacker.  We need another receiver.  We need help at corner, I'm not sure if Jackson can return the same player.  We're going to need an opposite edge, and a 1 tech since it appears we're going hybrid 3-4 zone blitz.

The only way we could get Stroud is to make a trade with the Bears. If the Bears can't get a trade down (which I think that is what they really want) they will go defense.  Huston takes Stroud. After that it's anyone's guess.

With the coaching staff that the team has in place on the offensive side on the ball, I have no longer have any issue with trading up for a QB. If there's a guy that the coaches agree can be the franchise QB, then go get him. If they believe in Corral, then roll with Matt. If they say bring back Sam, bring him back.

I'm legit just excited for the ride now. 🙂

My guess is Derek Carr signs with either the Jets or Saints, who are currently projected to be front runners in obtaining him.

If that is indeed the case, I could see the Panthers signing the much less expensive Jacoby Brissett as a bridge QB and draft Kentucky's QB Will Levis or Florida's QB Anthony Richardson, depending  on which one is available when they select # 9 in the 2023 NFL Draft..

I could live with  improved Darnold and a solid coaching staff to lead him. Of course a good run game and Oline would be a big plus. Rethinking this Carr thing after listening to some feed back. Maybe it is best we don't jump quickly.

I think the biggest cheerleader to sign Carr is probably Coral.

If we draft a QB then Corals career is virtually done as he will never get an opportunity. Carr allows him to be the developmental QB.

There is no question in my mind, Corral is a very accurate QB.  Keep in mind that he has not been thoroughly tested. A few snaps of the football during the preseason are not really enough to test a quarterback.

as a graduate of Ole Miss,  I have watched many quarterbacks come and go from Ole Miss.  my concern is this, is he mentally ready to play in the NFL?

for example, remember, Chad Kelly.  During Chads college career, he went on to play against Alabama and beat them two separate years.  However, he was shown to have mental problems.

my point is, “Don’t give up on Corral yet.”  Watch his NFL mentality closely.  If he passes the mental hurdle, I really do think he can be special.

meanwile Chad is probably in a stranger’s house watching the TV

I almost forgot,  he was initially playing by the Rhules.  I would like to see him play, for a real coach!!!

I think the best move we can make right now is to bring in Derek Carr.  This guy is not Teddy 2 Gloves, Darnold or Mayfield.  He is a legit QB.

Teams just don't cut legit QB's.

Legit QB's don't make the playoffs just 1 time out of his entire 9 year career.

We fall for the trap every year. Please just draft a QB. We can't fix a 32 year old aging Carr. Let some other team take him on. We've done it for 3 straight years it doesn't work.

This time it will be different though. Third times a charm right?
