I'll give you three guesses why 😆

Huddle gonna Huddle.

I genuinely don't understand why the debate between Stroud/Young gets as heated as it does.

We knew going into the offseason that there was no "perfect" QB candidate. We knew that Stroud had a great game against Georgia, but what he did while under pressure in that game was the polar opposite of what he's looked like. We knew that Young hadn't suffered any substantial injuries to date, but that doesn't mean he'll be as lucky in the NFL when it's a matter of when as opposed to if you'll get hurt.

Like... here we are, in a situation as fans, where we're going to get a franchise QB with either of those guys and yet we still have people making accounts so that they can defend a prospect's honor or (arguably worse) posters going out of their way to demonize folks for supporting a particular QB.

I'm glad that it keeps what little ad revenue there is going, but yeesh... are folks that bored?

I don't think it's the debate that gets heated so much as some of the people involved in it.

(generally for silly reasons)

I have to disagree. Stroud is considered the best passer by almost everyone in terms of accuracy, ball placement, effortless arm strength (vs. Young) etc. Most people think that is what Reich values the most, hence best fit.

Well, I'm really not sure what you're disagreeing with. I acknowledged Stroud's accuracy. People have noted his ball placement as well as his ball strength (versus every QB including Young). But you know what? Young is still considered the better and more complete QB from a purely football perspective by most.

Now as far as Frank Reich, you said that most "think" he is what Reich values most and that makes him a better fit. Not one person has really given anything more than lip service--a guess based on what they consider Reich values most, not what he has said that he values most. In fact, during his initial presser, he mentioned throwing from the pocket when necessary, but he also said (when asked) that we know where the league is heading in terms of a QB who can do things outside the pocket. So...who he actually prefers and who will be better for what he envisions going forward is still anyone's guess.

To be clear, the guys making the pick aren't really going to be all that concerned with what happens to the team if they're fired.

(and why should they be?)

They're going to be making the pick that they feel is best for them. And realistically, that's what they should do.

As far as ability, if they don't feel like there's a huge difference in that, why not take the guy they have to make fewer adjustments for?

If the difference is minimal and they just say screw it let’s go with Stroud I’m more than cool with that (I’m actually ok with taking Bryce Stroud or AR at 1 tbh) however if one is a full tier below the other….and if it’s common knowledge within the front office that Bryce is a decent bit better than CJ I’m willing to bet anything that Tepper “influences” them to take Bryce or AR or whomever they deem to be the overall best. Just my read of it.

I will just be glad when it’s over.

Absolutely.  All of this  bickering  back and forth is tiresome.  Just make the pick and roll with it. The coaches are going to make the call and there's not a damn thing anyone  here says that's going  to make a difference.

I would probably take the better QB. Coaches change, but a great QB can transcend any system.

A great QB from the 1st round that has been able to transcend any system?

So, that would be...

Great coaches have proven they can produce more championship QBs than great QBs have proven they can produce championship coaches.

Start with Joe Gibbs with Jim Hart, Dan Fouts, Joe Theismann, Doug Williams, and Mark Rypien. Bill Walsh with Ken Anderson, Dan Fouts, Joe Montana, and Steve Young. Mike Holmgren with Steve Young, Brett Favre, and Matt Hasselbeck. Andy Reid with Brett Favre, Donovan McNabb, and Patrick Mahomes.

Better success with a great coach and a non-1st round QB. Use the 1st round pick on a generational playmaking talent like Will Anderson, an impact player out of the gates like Jalen Carter, or a freakish WR that will be a playmaker in year one like Quentin Johnston.

It is so incredibly unwise the take the lesser talent because he fits the current system knowing that the current staff could be gone in 3 years...then what?

That would be an incredibly shortsighted decision if they believed Young was the better player but took CJ because it "fits" Reich system better. No serious Org would ever do that.

I believe if they take CJ, they legit believe is or will be better than Bryce. Any other reason will be a massive failure!

Coaches' job is to put their best players into the best situations.

The current staff is making the pick , though. If Reich fails, Fitterer is probably gone too. You want Tepper making the pick with the next potential coach in mind?

No! U take the best player & it’s up to any coach to put them in the best situation to win.

if ur coaching staff can’t put the best player in position to reach his full potential, u got the wrong staff anyway.

unless the player has character or current health concerns, u don’t give him up to ur competition.

That shouldn’t even be up for debate for any org that wants to consistently win.

    • Yuck.  I still kind of like Herbert but these playoff performances are rough....
    • I feel like this was the case with River and McDermott defenses as well, we just had the jimmies and the joes to overcome these deficiencies with all pro players at edge and linebacker positions.  Even then, was extremely frustrated in 2015 when we'd let team come back from 20+ pt deficits playing prevent only to barely win at the end.
    • We need to move on soon and just use Bryce as a bridge to find our next guy. I'd like to see how this offense works with Canales hand picking his own guy. Bryce holds this offense back a lot considering you draft the first pick to carry your team and be your best player. We invested heavily for Bryce and need everything to go right just to have him look like a solid game manager sometimes. When he plays well he can look decent or mid, but when he plays bad he looks like a bottom 5 qb in league (backups included). It's not worth it, especially if we need to pay him soon, which means we have to skimp all over the roster. If the defenses don't hand it to us on a silver platter Atlanta style then we struggle big time. Defenses don't respect the offense at all. With Cam we could have the worst offensive talent and I'd still think we had a shot in any game we played. If Bryce is facing a 3rd and 10 I pretty much wave the white flag and don't think we can make that first down.
