He better not, that was the main selling point on him, that his processing and mental side of the game were next level and more ready than any other QB in recent memory from that standpoint.

His negatives were his size and durability (nothing to do there but not get hurt) and that he doesn't have any truly elite physical traits (i.e. arm strength, speed, etc).  Those are things that can just tank him as a QB if he can't prove them wrong, but the whole thing with him is that his mental side of the game was supposed to be so good, that those things shouldn't be issues for him.

Sure, some early mistakes, but that better not be where he struggles or it will be concerning as that's what he's supposed to be so good at figuring out and overcoming.  I'll take it the first half of the season, but if that's an issue late in the year, that's scary.

He's a rookie.

I'm thinking the realm of 3700 yards. 24 tds. 14 interceptions.  Probably 300 yds rushing a 3 rushing tds...

Rookie QBs struggle and this would be a good start. Id hope for a good run/pass ballance as Reich  and Brown have spoke of.

2800 yrds in 14 games

21 td - 9 int

64.5% passing (his senior yr number)

He will miss games for little injuries

Low td numbers are expected I also belief he is good in terms of ints so 9 is vwry very good number for a rookie.  His td number will be conservative...more running tds and grpund game will be more featured, especially in thw first half the season.

Peyton Manning is probably the most cerebral QB we've seen and his rookie season was littered with interceptions.

There's an adjustment period for all players, even really talented 1st round picks

Different era, Manning played at the height when defenses dominated and were allowed to do so by the rules

This. Offenses have evolved. The new wave of Elite Qb’s show they are elite from the jump. The only Qb that improved was Josh Allen. However Mahomes, Burrow, & Herbert each threw 66%, and had no more than 12 interceptions in their first year as a starter.

Pat Mahomes: 66%, 5,000+ pass yards, 50 touchdowns, 12 interceptions, rating of 113.8 (2018)

Joe Burrow: 65%, close to 2800 pass yards, 13 touchdowns, 5 interceptions, rating of 89.8 in 10 games started (2020)

Justin Herbert: 67%, 4300+ pass yards, 31 touchdowns, 10 interceptions, rating of 98.3

These players had the same statistical profile as Bryce coming out of college & it translated well to the league.

Its Young's rookie season.  I expect him to be better than what we've had recently  and to outperform the other rookie QBs, but its very unlikely he'll be all pro this season.

Trevor Lawrence   was  3641  yards 12 TD's  17 Ints his rookie year.

I'm hoping Young does better than that his rookie year.

Even if Young has a bad first year... I will remember Peyton Manning's first year and Trevor Lawrence helps drive recency bias.

    • I watched a clip of all the offensive snaps. Young threw into some tight coverage and the guys made some plays on the ball. He also really missed some throws.  He has this middle of the field thing into a tight window pretty good and made three or four nice plays but he was just too inconsistent with his accuracy especially in the red zone. Today and in general.    That Int where people were chastising Legette for ‘not fighting through the coverage’, he in no way could have gotten to that ball. IMO. I think he thought it was going to hit the ground and didn’t see the defender coming for it. But not sure what he could have done. The camera doesn’t show the spatial relationship very well, I think the ball was way off. maybe 6 feet or more off target to the inside of the field.  Rico is a beast. And a very good receiver.   That was my impression without dissecting and rewinding, just letting the video roll. I did rewind the int two or three times to look at that one.
    • My biggest issue with keeping Darnold, which I felt we should have done, is we would still have Fitterer. And everything that came with that.  I think Morgan is going to be good.  Baker, just did not play well at all here. Not sure what else we were supposed to take away from it at the time.  That’s my short ‘I don’t want to argue about it’ take.
    • Even if we somehow make the playoffs we will be one and done so fast. Seattle, Rams, TB, Panthers, Detroit and Philly are all better than us.
