Oh man this forum is just f-150 town isnt it? You have Nfc execs saying Burns is just as good as Bosa but plays for a poo team with no help aside from Derrick Brown and no offense to help him getting into obvious passing situations and thats not enough for these people.

for what its worth, Bosa had identical stats to Burns when he played tampa, difference being that Bosa had a much better game script than Burns and still produced the exact same

Oh well alls well that ends well. At least the FO understands value and knows that Matt fuging Rhule is the last person to use to evaluate a premium player.

The execs are just playing the game.   One would be an absolute moron if you think burns and bosa are comparable players.  Not even in the same stratosphere.    Burns is good.  He is going to get paid as if he is great.  Let’s hope he elevates his game.    But saying burns is as good as bosa and actually believing it is laughable at best.

Also worth mentioning that Burns was primarily used a 4-3 DE rather than 3-4 OLB until last season.

Having him in his ideal position is going to help tremendously. If the team can find another DL aside from Brown or get another pass rusher to put opposite of Burns this is going to be a dangerous defense.

If we pay Burns the same as Bosa I am gonna blow a gasket.
Now way in hell is he worth a 100+ million dollar contract.

"We"

My man you are not paying a dime on Burns contract. I will never understand how fans act like they are writing these checks for players. Sit back relax and watch Burns get paid. Great for him and his family.

I think this is a reasonable  assessment. But with Burns many people are only looking at what he doesn’t have or bring to the table.  I think the naysayers should be looking at what you lose if you don’t sign him. Maybe not perfect but you can’t go to the Defensive End store and get someone with all those superlatives gift wrapped to plug into a roster.  It’s not settling or overpaying it’s just what the market is for current elite players at that position. Burns will get every penny he is worth either here or elsewhere. Based on the offer the organization turned down I would bet it’s going to be here.

Folks have to deal with it.

Yeah, in the end, that's really the world they are working in. The market is a very real place and decisions made within can echo for years, for good or for bad.

I think he'll be an excellent pass rusher no matter what, I'd just really love to see him take over games.

Premium position equals premium pay. He is a proven player and will get what he gets, if not here, than there will be no shortage of other pass rush needy teams lined up. Every single team in the league is looking for pass rush, and those that don't have any wish they had what we have. There are 2 choices: pay the man and be happy about locking up a young player at a needed position, or replace him with an unknown. Maybe some 5th rounder that has shown "flashes" for a couple of seasons will have his breakout year. Then we can repeat the process again when his contract comes due.

Love Burns but we really should’ve taken the Rams offer if it really was 2 1st rounders.

Only if they didn’t plan on re-signing him. It would have been a different scenario on a team with more good young players coming up on contract extensions but that’s actually not the case for the Panthers right now.  I was fully in favor of making that trade especially given the team was total ass at the time, but if they’re going to keep him, make sure you keep him.

Getting rid of Burns would be like letting Julius Peppers walk.  No franchise would be that dumb...

Most of Carolina's elite edge rushers (Johnson, Rucker, Hardy) aside from Peppers did very little until year 3.  Burns is 25 and we are about to see 4-5 elite years of a premier edge rusher entering his prime.  A top edge makes your DBs better and allows for average edge rushers to benefit from a lack of attention.

We let Julius Peppers walk. I guess that is a joke or something. Okay Ha. Ha.

I do see the possibility that Burns becomes truly disruptive in a 3-4 and transcends the average.

But if he does not, with what he is about to be paid, he won’t be a good deal.

This entire discourse reminds me of Charles Johnson back in 09/10 or whenever that contract happened. He got a contract that reset the entire pass rusher market and he wasn't as good as Burns is at this point in their careers respectively.

He didn't quite live up to that contract but he was never a true liability while he was making that money.

I expect something similar to happen with Burns contract-wise, but I think Burns takes it up another notch in his play simply because he's been hamstrung by scheme in his recent years.

We'll see.

If you take less than the equivalent of 4 first round picks you're a moron. Thats how much a top 10 edge rusher is worth because the hit rate is 25% in the first round...

That’s a blanket statement and points toward an inept front/scouting department not a contract/value problem.

Winning franchises have much better numbers. If as a franchise, you’re on the lower % part of whatever makes up that stat, I feel like you’re doomed anyways.

Not sure how many winning franchises continually fail at the draft.

In other words if you can’t be competent enough to replace Burns like production with four first round picks, your team/franchise probably resembles something like the Browns.
