You shouldn't get to have it both ways. Either cut bait with the team until this regime is over (I did this through the Rhule years) or strap in for the long haul and try and enjoy the process because if this team does finally hit its stride there's going to be a lot of crow to be eaten around these forums.

That's the best part of being a fan, you can be two faced. Saint fans for years wore brown grocery bags on their heads. Then winning started and the bags disappeared. This is what you call sports fandom.  It's part of the deal.

I honestly think this team has these players as building blocks…

Burns, Young, Brown and maybe Ikey.  The rest need upgrades and without a first next draft we must take the best player available.  Not get cute, not wait for a run at a position and not grab need.  Get another building block and move forward.  This is going to take a while folks

Different kind of retread. Harbaugh was actually successful as a HC in the NFL; Reich was fired literally less than 3 months before Tepper hired him here.

Tepper made the classic mistake of allowing a previous mistake to lure him into another one by trying to over-compensate. He got bit hiring a coach with basically zero NFL experience in Rhule so he wanted someone with NFL head coaching experience to replace him.

What he's got now is an experienced NFL loser as a head coach. What we needed was a young up-and-coming offensive mind in the mold of Mike McDaniel; someone like Shane Steichen, Kellen Moore, etc. But we passed on both of them to bring in Frickin' Frank.

I can't believe I just typed those words, but yeah. At least Rhule was an unknown quantity in the pros; Reich had already been fired once. This is why you don't hire retreads.

This is sad but we were better off with Rivera than we were with both his successors combined. And that's not a high bar for Rivera to beat.

I thought I'd never seen a poorer job of play calling or preparation before Rhule came here but Reich seems even worse.

Every offensive play that worked today was off schedule and was Dalton having to improvise or go to the third or fourth receiver. 

And Fitterer traded away CMC for... basically a poorly done draft pick and the opportunity to pick up Sanders and his nifty 48 yards per game. 

This is a poorly coached, poorly built team.

And the poor fanbase has to sit through this.

Burns disappears after the first half, and sometimes after the first quarter. He blows through all of his energy blasting into the back field early on and then just gets taken out of plays. I saw a TE just blocking him out a few times, unassisted. And he's no help in the run game whatsoever.\

Not that anyone we have is much good in the run game. Offense or defense.

Championship teams are not built over a while. They are built by people who know NFL success and talent. They may take 1 or 2 seasons max to be playoff level, but you will see their young talent show winning drives on the field (about 6 to 10 players to start in year 1). When you are not seeing this from the young players and say it will take a while, you are saying the team should scrap it and start again because they're going nowhere in the next 3 to 5 years.

No reason to go from a 7+ win team under a capable coach thrown into the fire to worst in the NFL.

If what Wilks did was not enough to keep him, why is keeping another coach who can't do the same or better reasonable? Why not give Wilks 2 more seasons to prove success?

Reich is not a better coach than Wilks or Rivera. None of them are championship head coach material. Most of us already know what to expect from Rivera & Reich. Wilks is the unknown who should get a couple years to show he can beat the best coaches in the NFL. Rivera & Reich got that opportunity already & their ceiling is known.

Today is a very sad day of realizations.  We fuged up big time and we're in a deep, deep hole.  This isn't just some regular old rebuild...  we are in a bad way. 

I’m an NC State grad and fan.  I’m built for shitty to mediocre football/sports teams.  Back in my day (only old ass men say that) we didn’t have the google to whine so we learned to cope with cheap piss warm beer.

Gonna take a lot more than than a retread coach and a clueless hedge fund billionaire to run me off.

Steichen would have been better. Moore has looked kinda shaky. Harbaugh was the total package in my mind, though Tepper was never going to  give him control, and I suspect that's why Harbaugh never solidified any traction when he and Tepper had their meeting. 

I think it's a bit overboard to call Frank a loser, though he was the safe, uninspired C+ pick reminiscent of a Fox or Rivera---a glorified John Rivera or Ron Fox. I just can't stand it, really. 

What kills me the most about Reich is that he seems out of touch with reality as to how average, dull and surprisingly situationally off the mark that his play calling really is.

CMC was the only player added to the core that had leader/playmaker ability since the 2012 offseason. The Panthers went from adding 1 to 2 core leaders/playmakers every season to adding 1 core leader/playmaker in a decade.

This is the problem that has compounded since 2013. Need a flow of leaders & playmakers to keep it going. The problem does not appear to be corrected with the 2023 draft.

Not elevating Brandon Beane in 2013 is clearly the downfall.
